51.8 million PlayStation 3 consoles sold worldwide

Impressive that they caught up so much despite having a year less of sales... As for catching up maybe with that price cut coming people would buy more consoles.... We will have to wait and see.
 
I still would like to know if microsofts figures includes all those RROD console replacements..............

it clearly says 55 million units sold its funny how rrod gets brought up every time yet you guys fail to realise that only actual sales (as in over the counter) gets counted in these ESTIMATES ! RROD consoles where swapped out for free so that was never included as sales (swap means to give one in and get another for those who dont understand the meaning of it).

to be biased like you guys im sure 10 million of those ps3's where ylod and blu ray failure models (which where not swapped out for free so I guess ps3 owners had to go out and buy new ones).

If the PS3 is still under warranty you would get a free refurb.

I'm currently using a refurb because my first PS3 got attacked by lighting :p.

Some people get fed up with RROD on the earlier models and buy new 360s because of the newer hardware inside.

Good for Sony. Not just good for them, but good for gaming in general. It is growing very rapidly. 3DS and PS3 have both undergone some price cuts in recent months and it is starting to show results.

BTW I see BT Games Value Marts have now adjusted their prices to reflect the price cut...R2499.99 for a 320GB PS3
