██████ we have a problem selling pc games !

Necuno

The Piper
Just had unpleasant experience due piracy and key thieves. I got an extra skyrim on Wednesday from ██████, just to be greated with "sorry your key has already been redeemed". So I had to go back to ██████ this morning and ask them for a swapout. At least that part was semi painless and I ended up going to another branch, using gift card and then phoning my wife to confirm the damned key work before I leave ██████ behind and return.

At original place of purchase the guy informed me they had numerous issues with pc games's keys being stolen, generated and so on and it's becoming a problem to sell pc games. So in fact it's a problem for ██████ to sell pc games.

I'm quite sure the boxes was already open and just missing the cd's on the rack when I got my skyrim from ██████ on wednesday, so in part ██████ would have to take responsibility for that as well, as it's their practice to take out the cd and put cases back on the shelves. Sales person however said even if they were sealed it still happens...

This just got me all nerd fired up again about the fucking pirates, key stealers and related. I choose to suppose and then I get kak like this. I suppose for silver line, this is was about only the 3rd time it happened to myself that key just won't work or is already taken.

However in ██████'s defence they really really went to extra mile to help, but I've seriously will rethink supporting them or any retail shop again as I don't get this bullshit if I buy from a digital distributor.

This is what kills pc for me, totally.

I dont think its a real issue P - over the years Ive only seen a handfull of cases of cd key problems.

Ha,ha I did once catch a kid the entering cd keys of the display boxes into his cellphone in the shop.

I did however encounter a very irratating situation with I think it was with COD 4/MW 2 - several times that I tried to play mp I would be told that my account was in use - it would even happen some times during a map change - one minute I'm playing and then I get kicked!! - I dont know if this was just a glitch or whether somebody was actualy hacking my account.

Funny story: serial keys are inevitable on console (ask Sony), most key thefts are done in-store (don't ever accept an opened box) and if you ever have a stolen key (especially for a Steamworks game), take a picture of the box, the key and your receipt and mail Valve. They'll respond in a few short hours with a working key and the stolen key user will be banned for life, yo.

Why is the name blacked out everywhere?
secrecy bill ;). It's look and listen btw.

Noted. Funny though that we normally joked about slipping keys waaaaaaaaay back in the day, not so nice when it actually happens to oneself

I thought this takes weeks to sort out, o well 2 hours later and I had another box.

Considering the Key for Skyrim was stuck on the box, if they left empty boxes on the self all someone needed to do was snap a quick pic of the key and bam free game. Don't blame keys, blame retailers who insist on removing discs from boxes. I now ask first if they have sealed copies and if they don't I just goto another store.

Wasn't I blaming the retailer as well

I don't know about other companies but as long a you send the required information in the first e-mail, they sort it out pretty much instantly.
Just seems that L&L wasn't taking this seriously enough and still went about disc removal, leave case on shelve. Still I wonder wtf they are going to do with that skyrim they are stuck with.

Don't think just trying steam was the correct method, maybe after my return they might think to think about their methodology. BT in that regard just have place holders on the racks and go and fetch it from the back, a lot better method. Maybe I'll just use TopCD again *shrugs*...

Considering all the extra codes and keys and promo unlocks and all that jazz you get in boxes now, it's just plain irresponsible to sell opened boxes as new.

Yep its all fun and games untill somebody gets hurt;)

Apart from it being a bit of a mission for you you havent lost anything here - the only people losing out in this case would be the retailer.

It grates me that some idiot is playing a game legitly somewhere with a stolen key. Even more than pirates trouble me. I'd report it to Steam just to have his ass banned for his insolence.

It also just shows the naivity of retailers. This has always been an issue with L&L to me. Never mind the whole serial issue, which don't get me wrong is a cluster fuck, is now some pimply kid has handled the discs and possibly scratched it ot left pizza oil fingerprints on it. It is a incredibly stupid and irresponsible method of selling disc media, games or movies or music.

As for the serial issue, well, what the fuck do they expect? You give people the access to steal, they will.

I don't buy games off the shelf very often, I tend to buy them from online retailers, then they haven't even been on the shelf. But if I do buy a game from a shop, then I'd want it to be sealed.

Look and Listen stock unopened cases, however when you go to pay for it, they open them so that they can check that the cd isn't damaged etc.
BT Games on the other hand sell it to you sealed.
Now the reason that Look and Listen do that is because they say that a lot of the stock gets damaged in transit to them, I find it strange that they are the only ones that have that policy as I have never had a problem with any new game off the shelf being damaged that I have bought from anyone.
They really should change the delivery company, as I for one want to open the game I just bought, not somebody else. It is part of the reason why I like retail boxed copies.

Indeed. I dislike L&L for that exact same reason. If there's a fault with a disk, it also isn't always visible as damage on the disk, but there's something wrong with the disk itself.

I bought Skyrim from them, and was kinda shocked to see them opening the case. Well they did it when I bought Gothic Universe a few years back, but I was shocked to see that they were still doing it.
Would have thought it would have been sorted by now.
