A gripe with DLC

Ok so im adding another rant about DLC in games these days.

The game in question is the soon to be released Forza Horizon.
Now the game is a spinoff, for one. Its more an arcade racer than the racing sim forza is meant to be, but sure, change of pace/scenery and I have a pre order ready to go for the collectors edition as well as Ive learned with all previous forza games, GET THE EFFING CE for the bonus stuff!

Now this is all well and good, but now the game isnt even out yet and they've announced a DLC for it... and a $20 DLC at that??? What the actual F###? Announcing the first DLC pack with a massive price tag like that before the game has even launched is just as bad as having DLC stored on the disk and then only being able to access it once you paid extra for it.

I am so sorely disappointing in the devs about this as they are basically saying "well heres the unfinished game that goes for the same price as a full game, now feel free to buy the rest of it for the same price you paid for the first half at your leasure...". I know bitching about it on a forum aint gonna change that much, but after reading the article about the rally DLC costs over and above the R700 im forking out for the CE i just lost my sense of humor entirely.

You're right, talking about it on a forum isn't going to change anything. If you really want to send a message then cancel your pre-order and just don't buy the game and maybe even mail the publishers/developers why you are no longer interested in their product.

Complaining about it and still buying the CE kinda seems counter-productive.

Nothing wrong with venting, or discussing the issue. Don't see why it has to be slapped down purely out of cynicism.

I rarely bother with DLC, but if I do, I make sure it's a game that I genuinely like, and I'm 100% sure I'm going to be investing a lot of time into. Getting something shiny for the sake of its shininess is pointless, so I don't bother with stuff like skins or other useless doodads (like the utterly pointless "dog" in Mass Effect 3) that don't add appreciatively to the actual experience of the game itself.

As M0nk said though, the only real way to vote is with your wallet. If you don't like what they're doing, don't support them, and if enough people don't like it, hopefully something will have to give. Apparently, Bioware has been making a habit of creating DLC content while still working on their games, as they allegedly did with ME3, and it has made a lot of people angry. Interested in seeing what will happen with their next cash-in sequel (Dragon Age 3).

I was slapping down anything merely supporting what Panthis already stated. Nothing wrong with venting, but don't complain you're getting fat while stuffing a six pack of twinkies down your mouth.

That's not a valid comparison. The twinkie manufacturers have taken out some of the ingredients from the original twinkie, but are still asking you to pay the same price. Not only that, they'll sell you the ingredients separately if you agree to pay another 50% or so of the original sale price.

Whether he's "getting fat or not" is irrelevant.

Why are you angry with the devs about this. We all know it's the scumbag publishers that want to squeeze as much money as possible out of your purse.

Huh... I think you completely missed that analogy.

Not at all. You're saying he shouldn't complain because he's buying it anyway.

Point is that he enjoys playing video games, yet in order to play the self-same (quality-wise) games he's been playing for years, he now has to fork out extra cash or be satisfied with a sub-par product.

He has every right to be angry about it.

No I said the only effective way to get your complaints across is to not buy it, not that he shouldn't complain. He's not just buying the game either he's paying extra for the CE edition.

I'm not saying you need to stop playing all games, but at some point if you really don't like what a developer is doing you HAVE to stop supporting them. Otherwise they'll just keep doing the same thing over and over again.

Which is exactly what I said earlier?

OKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY... finally able to reply to the thread.

@Monk, dude i know what you mean and i fully agree with you. If you aren't happy with the product, don't support who is making it.
But the game itself isn't my gripe. I have been playing forza since the first one came out and i love it to bits! its not quite GT, but its as close as I'm going to get without buying another console.

I have been playing the demo recently and its actually really good, a little bit more arcadey (i made this word up... just FYI :D) than previous forza titles, but its a nice change from the solid racing sim that forza 4 is. My issue is the fact that im getting an already amazing game, but some of the best features have been announced before the game is even released and already have a separate price tag over and above the price of the original game.

If horizon was horrible and the DLC was needed to improve it then i wouldn't buy it, but as I've said it very good from what Ive played of it so far. The fact that im getting the CE is just personal choice as ive learned that the CE in the forza series is better to have than to not as you get content the standard game doesnt get access to for a LONG while and is actually useful in game from the get-go (Not to mention the cool memorabilia that comes with the CE :D).

As for sending the Devs an email, i did and asked how they can do this, announce paid for DLC for the game before the game even releases, i also sent them an edited copy of my original rant on this thread and the generic reply i got was basically as Lyt said, its the publishers decision to increase the longevity and earnings potential of the title in question.

Based on this fact I will, in part, support what you are saying and not purchase the DLC packs or season pass for this game, but i still have very intention of enjoying the stock title nonetheless.

Yeah it's up to you, you just have to balance out what you think is appropriate. I know I caved with ME3 and bought the CE edition for the sole reason of getting the Prothean character which should definitely have been part of the regular game.

read an article about this and how they relying on microtransactions to make more money while still charging full price for the game.. Not on

we have a thread reviver! and u just hit 20 POSTS!!! GOOD ON YOU MATE!

Good luck with winning warfighter and PES!!! pity you didnt get AC3 :(
