A look at what made the PS2 great

Games I had with my PS2:

Tekken 3 (shared)
Gran Turismo 2
Gran Turismo 3 (gift from sibling)
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Whiplash (never finished)

That all I can remember :)

Still have mine hooked up to an old TV in the spare room.
I will play it forever or till I die. Whichever comes first:)

graphics so beautiful you wept at the sight of them?

At the risk of sounding like a member of the PC master race (which I am, obviously), it was around this time that I finally "upgraded" my PC with what was by then the veritably ancient RIVA TNT2.

(While all my buddies had PCs with AGP slots, I was stuck with a PCI-only motherboard and the Riva was the only half-decent card to still support the slower standard at the time, if memory serves).

You may have had Gran Turismo, FFX, and DMC, but in 2001 I had Baldur's Gate 2, Black & White (bad game, cool graphics), Arcanum, AvP2, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

you had get to a save point before you could go to bed.

It's 2014 and this still happens. What's worse, this terrible practice has weaselled it's way into PC games.

(Also: Nice one, Kevin. Enjoyed reading it thoroughly.)

The one thing I love(d) about the PS2 was its huge catalogue of JRPGs, including those on the PS1: Persona, Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, Dragon Quest, Shadow Hearts and of course slightly sillier games like Kingdom Hearts.

There was just so much imagination and creativity back then and I actually enjoyed those games.

Many of them aren't sold any longer and, certainly, the newer consoles don't support them any longer (or have them available digitally). And that's what has essentially killed a large portion of my interest in consoles.

There are still a handful of games that interest me but throwing out R6,000-odd for all of maybe 5 or 6 games that I would play in its lifetime and that would then be unplayable come the newer generations? Impossible to justify.

i still have my fat (working) ps2 and it was (And still is) a brilliant console for its time (considering how devs pressed it on a technical level) although it sold the most, i wouldnt call it the best though ;) !

It was a time when games didn't hold your hand you didn't have dlc and didn't need to patch things.

I had :
Quake 3 revolution(awesomeness)
Prince of persia sands of time
Red faction(the split screen mp was so much fun)
GTA san andreas
Mk deadly alliance
Mk Deception
Silent hill 2
Silent hill 3
Drakan

And I rented a bunch of games as well:
Man hunt
evil dead
can't remember the other ones

Here's my goodies:

added the xbox games because it just happens to feature.
I have a lot of fun in this corner!
That is a very small part of my ps2 collection that I regularly play. I worked at a game shop in London and we got 20% staff discounts and used games went for so cheap there. I amassed a mammoth collection. My luggage was just games, it was awesome! Seriously, left everything behind except my games and toothbrush.

Mine was a phat one as well. I got mine in 2002 :((that sounds like a rhyme) :p

Was in grade 7 when I got mine.

haha... I sort of acquired mine through marriage :p

Apparently it's a good number of years old as well. Solid as a brick though.
