A new publisher is joining GOG.com

Fantastic!

Eagerly awaiting feedback on KotOR. I wonder if they've fixed the issues that are prevalent in the Steam version.

You mean the resolution/UI issues? There are a few workarounds but none of them are perfect. I'd buy both games again in a heartbeat if they could fix them properly. I was forced to play KOTOR2 on 1600x1200 on a 16:9 monitor just to get it to work properly the other day. :(

Nope, KotOR (and KotOR II I think) really don't like multi-core systems. At least that's the problem I've encountered, which caused me to have to disable a bunch of things to get it working, like cutscenes. The GOG version has apparently fixed that. I also had a problem that during combat, the icons for your actions (like flurry, attack, force powers ect) wouldn't display in the area they're meant to, and would instead show up randomly in the middle of the screen. It made issuing commands quite challenging to say the least.

There's also the "flawless widescreen mod" that lets you play in widescreen by the way. There was one for KotOR II as well, I think it was called UNIWS. There should be a guide on the Steam Community, if you own it over there. That coupled with the Restored Content mod made the game almost perfect.

I recommend checking out PC Gaming Wiki.

For the foreseeable future, GOG has stopped their enigmatic hint for their Tuesday releases, which basically means we'll be getting LucusArts games every week for a while. New releases should be coming tomorrow.

Also, in related news, a moderator of the GOG forum has confirmed that the Jedi Knight series is coming (although probably not tomorrow).

fronzelneekburm: JudasIscariot, would you kindly drop me a little enigmatic hint as to whether we can expect Jedi Knight here any time soon? And by "enigmatic", I mean "Yes" or "No". ;P

JudasIscariot: Yes. It's coming. We've got a lot of stuff going on and I haven't had the chance to come up with a good hint as of yet :)

This is particularly interesting because Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is a major pain to get running on modern systems. The Steam version is completely broken, so if GOG manage to get it working 'out of the box', it would be a major accomplishment. Personally, I'm hoping for Dark Forces, Monkey Island 2 / 3 and Outlaws. That would be awesome.

Full Throttle, man, Full Throttle!!

BASTARDS!! Make us wait until the last moment....buuuuuut, ALL is forgiven. Its simple math, must buy!
Also, $15? Are you kidding me? I would have paid double that!

EDIT: Wonder if the game will support controllers like the XBox 360 controller. I think the game would be awesome for playing on a large screen TV.

I bought the original Grim Fandango on physical media many moons ago but I could never get it working properly under the newer Windows. It always had graphics glitches and problems with the controls. At least it had those problems when it didn't freeze up completely. Anyway, the thing is I'm super psyched for this release since it will give me a chance to experience this game for the first time :D

Now somebody just need to remaster "Blade Runner" and "Kingdom O' Magic" in HD and I'll be a very happy gamer.

Today, with great pride and joy, we're excited to announce Wave II of Lucasfilm games on GOG.com! Starting right now, six new Star Warsâ„¢ classics are available in our DRM-free Lucasfilm/Disney catalog. This includes three amazing titles available, for the first time in digital distribution, exclusively on GOG.com:

Star Warsâ„¢: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter - digital distribution debut, on GOG.com!
Star Warsâ„¢: X-Wing Allianceâ„¢ - digital distribution debut, on GOG.com!
Star Warsâ„¢ Galactic Battlegrounds Saga - digital distribution debut, on GOG.com!

We're also celebrating the DRM-free release of these Star Warsâ„¢ games with a 72-hour 20% launch discount:
Star Warsâ„¢ Battlefrontâ„¢ II
Star Warsâ„¢: Dark Forces
Star Warsâ„¢ Knights of the Old Republicâ„¢ II: The Sith Lordsâ„¢

Wave II starts now

Dammit, I've been beaten :p

Really liking the new releases, keep it up GOG ;) Hopefully they've done some work to Dark Forces. I tried playing the Steam version which was running in an old version of dosbox, it was bad; almost unplayable. Can't wait for them to release the rest of the Jedi Knight series. It'll be interesting to see what they do to Dark Forces 2. That game has a laundry list of issues on modern systems.

EDIT: Really good pricing too. Good time to pick 'em up.
Wait, now that Gamespy is gone, what's happened to the BF2 MP?

EDITz: Nevermind, I didn't look hard enough
Multiplayer notice: The game's multiplayer servers have been taken offline, however, multiplayer over LAN is still available.
Disappointing that they didn't use try and use GOG Galaxy to breath some new life into it. Hopefully after it launches they'll do something about that.

More EDITzz: Apparently we're getting more games in 45 hours, according to the countdown timer on the site. It's like Christmas!

Grim Fandango is one of the best Adventure games i have ever played. Right up there with Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle :) wonder if they planning a remaster of those also ?

Wave three was leaked:

They were revealed (accidentally?) on Rockpapershotgun:
  • Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II - interesting to see if they managed to get this working
  • Star Wars: Starfighter
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando

I guess they made a deal with the devil, because GOG somehow managed to get Dark Forces II running correctly, even in hardware acceleration mode, on modern systems. They also included the expansion, which is sold for extra on Steam. Good on you, GOG

No new countdown timer, so I think that's all we're getting for now. Hopefully Wave 3 comes soon.

Also Grim Fandango Remastered is out, here's a launch trailer. I do wish they had done some more work on the actual models though, there's still a lot of clipping issues. Eh, at least the game isn't in limbo anymore.

*looks around*
Anyone in here?

I didn't see anyone mention this. It looks like the Galaxy client is coming along nicely. GOG are currently accepting Alpha access requests for those who are interested. I've signed up. Looks like they're definitely trying to get it out by the time Witcher 3 launches.

The features included in the alpha release (in other words, what we want to test):
-- client installation
-- application basics (resource usage, responsiveness, stability, user interface)
-- the auto-update function
-- installing, updating and launching games* via the client (without a standalone installer)
* not all games are currently compatible with the client, so you’ll only see the compatible ones in the alpha version of the Galaxy Client.

Features NOT included in this release (planned for subsequent releases):
-- an embedded GOG.com store
-- a better library view
-- managing DLCs, language packs, and auto updates in the client
-- downloading standalone installers and bonus content
...and more!

If you want to participate in this test, we expect some feedback from you (after all, that’s what this alpha is for!). Therefore, we expect you to have some time to test the client:
-- download and install the Client app and log in to your account
-- install/uninstall as many games as you can
-- know how to access various logs and try different problem solutions as needed
-- report any bugs and issues in our internal reporting system
-- participate in discussions with our staff and follow their suggestions/requests

Yes, that does require some technical knowledge and a bit of your time. If you don’t think you’re the best person to test out the Galaxy Client in its alpha version, don’t worry! There will be a public beta once we finish this stage, when you will be able to check out the Galaxy Client without any extra requests from our end.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

They're on a roll, another publisher joins GOG! This time it's Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment comes to GOG.com.

We're on a roll! We're happy to announce that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment joins the GOG.com catalog to make the world of DRM-free gaming that much better today. We're starting off with six widely requested titles:

Let's start big:
Mortal Kombat 1+2+3 just got the GOG.com treatment. If you were having a hard time getting these notorious bits of gaming history to run on your computer, boy do we have a surprise for you!

We're also launching these five heavily requested titles with big, weeklong discounts:
It's yet another great start to yet another great publisher debut on GOG.com, let's get our fill!

I'm really excited that more 'mainstream' publishers are taking an interest in GOG. Choice is always a good thing, especially when GOG is usually a better experience than choosing Steam.

They also added Toonstruck a few days ago.

I like that they're being a bit more aggressive in getting new publishers to join. The only thing they need to do now is to work on keeping them. For example, EA and Sqaure Enix are both on GOG, but haven't put out anything in a while. Both those companies have large collections of legacy titles that should be on GOG.

Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know.

Paradox Interactive joins on GOG.com!

We're barely even winded.

Today yet another awesome publisher, Paradox Interactive, becomes part of the most gamer-friendly DRM-free catalog around. We're kicking off the partnership with a weeklong 50% discount on four of the titles:

If you've always wanted to give the genre a try, Europa Universalis is probably the best starting point, but we know grand strategy can be daunting. That's why you can also drop by our Twitch.tv/gogcom channel, where we'll be streaming the game live with Quill18, this Tuesday, February 17th, 7pm GMT / 2pm EST / 11am PST.

It's a fine way to get acquainted.

If you're a fan of complex strategy playgrounds, you can look forward to a trickle of more grand strategy classics from paragons of the genre, Paradox Interactive, coming to the coolest DRM-free game store near you!

Hoping to see Magicka on there once they release GOG Galaxy.

The Ys series of games are now available on GOG.com. Seriously, what is causing this sudden explosion of companies coming to GOG? Not that I'm complaining, maybe they're getting tired of Valve's stupid policies or something?

Arcade-like action-jRPG platformer with Metroidvania elements.

Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin: a series of action-focused jRPGs, is available now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 25% launch discount!

Ys I & II Chronicles+ is an enhanced release of the two that started it all. These classics feature a unique buttonless "bump" combat system, designed to mitigate the pace-breaking repetition of a standard jRPG grind. Combat is carried out by simply bumping your enemies, where the speed and direction of your attacks determine their effectiveness for a satisfying way to resolve conflicts and level up.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a reimagining of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys. It brings the threequel into a 3D world with new combat mechanics, all focused on the spirit of non-stop action rather than item and skill management. Thanks to the self-contained story, you can feel safe starting your adventure right here.

Ys Origin is the most recent entry into the series, a prequel set 700 years before the events in Ys I & II Chronicles+. This is the title that perfects the many facets of the Ys formula, combining the best gameplay elements for what the developer's themselves call an "arcade-like RPG platformer with Metroidvania elements".

If you're looking for jRPG charm with action-RPG gameplay Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin are here to please, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, February 26th, at 10:59 AM GMT.

Here's some info about the games for those that don't know about them:

More classics from Lucasfilm now on GOG.com

Uncovering a treasure trove of action and adventure.

Disney Interactive and Lucasfilm games are back! They say third time's the charm, we're hoping you agree. Today, we're uncovering a true treasure trove of long-lost intrigue, action, and peril - digital premieres, beloved adventures, (and a shooter, but that's just another kind of adventure, isn't it?) all DRM-free and ready for your loving digital embrace:

There is nothing quite as satisfying as reviving the most beloved and woefully unavailable (until now, that is) gaming classics for you guys, and we're super happy to have already released 24 of Lucasfilm's greatest already. After today's big wave, even more anticipated Lucasfilm games will gradually keep showing up on GOG.com in the far and near future, stay tuned!

All launch discounts will last for one week, until March 26, at 1:59 PM GMT.
