A question to gaming parents

Is there gaming, after baby?

Last month my wife and I became VERY proud parents. hi5s all round.
I obviously knew that there would be a major reshuffle of priorities, but the biggest influence (after my bank account) was my gaming time.

Does it get better, or will the next game I play be Diablo 4?

When a mate of mine had twins he asked if I knew of any point-and-click games since he'd always have 1 baby by his side at least. He started playing KOTOR 1 & 2 / Monkey Island etc.

I'm guessing strategy games would also work, but don't count on FPS'ing or MMO'ing a lot :p

Don't worry, it gets better. Your first is the toughest as you are still finding your way. While you may not have much time for gaming in the beginning, as you get more used to having a child around you will find time for gaming.

Just remember - they're not as fragile as you think they are. ;)

It is up to you whether or not you can still game or not. I don't see why you won't be able to. Obviously you won't play quite as much as you used to, if you played a lot, but it is all about working out the when and how's.

This is true. My dad turned his head for 5 seconds and my bro rolled off the top of a double bunk bed when he was a baby. He didn't have a single scratch on him, but it explains a lot today.

Yeah I didn't quite mean like that :p

I mean - as a first time parent, you're so careful with everything regarding the baby. If you drop a dummy on the floor, for eg, you immediately pick it up, chuck it through the sterilization process - maybe consider throwing it out and buying a new one :) - but by the time the third baby comes along, you pick it up, rinse it off under the tap and give it back. :D

Hahaha, same thing happened to my youngest sis. She slept on top bunk. Must've been around 8 or 9 years and moered off. Fell flat on her jaw. Was incredibly sore and couldn't eat solid food for a week or two. Entire lower half of face was black and blue.

As to the gaming thing, if it's important to you, you will find time to game. It might also sometimes be a healthy break from beeing goo goo gaga all the time with junior.

My little one has just turned 1 and yes, obviously you will have your gaming time cut, but it will still be there. I mostly game after the little one has gone to bed. As she/he gets older, your gaming time will increase. Btw, congrats! It's the most joy a human will ever expirience!

And females are wonderful at multitasking, came home one day while my girlfriend was on meternaty leave and found her on the bed breastfeeding and jamming borderlands at the same time...

Your gaming becomes limited to late night sessions and normally limited to non-online games. If the little one squeeks while you are in the middle of a SC2 game it normally is the end of the session :p

I swopped COD for DA2, but missed the final cutscene/plotscene... so I still don't know what Anders did.

Play dates are the future methinks!

One-handed gaming becomes infinitely more possible with 17 buttons on your mouse... And yes - I have raided WoW and played FPS one-handed with the right key setups.
Just takes a bit of getting used to using your mouse for WASD-movement etc as well.

I'm sorry but being one-handed behind a PC should be an acquired skill to most of the gents by now. Right? Lol lol

Congrats dude! My gaming suffered after my daughter was born and as she was getting old enough for me to get some time for gaming... along comes my son :) Still it's only the first year that's really tough time wise, it gets easier. Just pray that your kid doesn't end up with colic, that is a game killer of note (I speak from experience).

How old are you guys with babies AND still worried about gaming? Seriously? Early 20's? (im not picking a fight - just scared I guess lol)

My Son had Colic for the first three months and it was really tough, tbh the First year I was either too tired to even think about gaming, that's one of the reasons I basically quit playing online.
He's two and a half now and I game after he goes to bed, as most of the day after work is spent playing Duplo etc.
I recently started him out on short gaming sessions, bought him a steering wheel and the Cars game for 360 along with the smallest of the Pyra Gaming Chairs, he loves it, also loves Motorstorm, I steer and he does gas and Boost :)

Take it from me, parenting is the toughest and most rewarding thing you will ever do.
I mentioned to Nic, just the other day, Parenting is the largest, longest running MMO out there, and I'd gladly go questing with my Level 2.5 Battle Dwarf
