A tribute to "TV Games" - The NES

Great piece. It kicked me right in the childhood. When I saw Darkwing Duck, I wanted to stop what I was doing at work and hook up an emulator.

Ah the memories... where it all stared :D
According to my dad I started playing TV Games since I was 3.
I can't remember how old I was but my first TV Game was called Good Boy, looked like a knight rider design, came with a 32 in 1 cartridge and was bought from a Video Store.

Lol! Those Kids REALLY sucked at Mario!

I was playing these the other day, my sister still has ours from when we were kids "whistling:

Its insane how difficult some of these games were... Like seeing Dark Wing Duck, jeez that game drove me insane... I used to play for HOURS!!! And there was no saving back then... Sometimes i used to leave the console on over night just so i didn't loose my place... Still to this day dont think i ever finished it... And Tiny Toons!! OMG That game drove me insane!

You couldn't save, but I figured out a trick in Super Mario Bros involving turtles and stairs where you could get as many extra lives as you wanted, so I managed to finish Super Mario Bros a good few times. I tended to overdo the extra lives bit, once the life counter ran out of numbers (over 99), it started with letters (AA, AB, AC, etc), then when it ran out of letters (after ZZ), it started with ASCII characters. I had no idea how many lives I had, probably thousands

Ha ha! That's madness! Super Mario I finished a few times but by using the "level skipping tunnels"

I found a world record for finishing it, it was like 5 mins something... One holiday i sat down with the intention of trying to beat that record... And I did... Then I went back onto the site and it said, please note this is the final attempt at the record and no submissions will be taken after this... I was quite shattered... Even though i was like 10 years to late "whistling:

And here is the link to the record

My favourite game was Shatterhand, I played it to completion many times. I had the Japanese version which had a power ranger looking character.

Damn, I wonder how many tries that took to get right. Those stages bring back lots of memories though. I notice he skipped the stage with the jumping fish, that one killed me many times

Megaman

It was called Rockman here and was in Japanese. :o

Man Tiny Toons was awesome. I still have my red and white china console somewhere.

Oh wow, I forgot about those two. I miss it terribly. Track & Field (with the whole sock-over-the-fingerd-sprinting-manoeuvre), Spartan (whooobooo) and the damn Circus. Then throw in some Contra, Elevator Action, Battle Toads and Paper Boy...why the hell did I grow up?

What of Battle City, Bomberman, Joust, Paperboy, Excite Bike, Adventure Island, Ice Climber, Tetris.... Oh, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers

Yuuuuuup. I miss the hell out of those games. Luckily, the aren't hard to come by. That's how I'll spend Friday night.

Stahp! Just stahp with all these names... too much nostalgia going through my brains...
Also, check how many times you finished Super Mario, Adventure Island, etc, or just plain replayed those games.
Most games these days you would play once then kla.
