Activision is on a roll ...

I can't agree with your argument here. Activision is only following the global trend that's been in gaming since the 90's. What would you consider EA's add ons for Command and Conquer back in the day? You had to pay for a few new maps and maybe a unit or three. EA also did the same thing with Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. BF1942 Secret Weapons of WWII and Road to Rome, then there was BF2 Euro Forces and Armoured Fury, the fact that they were release free, years later, with patch 1.5 is besides the point. Hell they even did it with BF2142 and Northern Strike. Dragon Age Origins has DLC, so does Boarderlands.

Most games these days are coming out with DLC and the fact is that most of the DLC being released will enhance the original game, so what not pay for it? Do you think it is free do develop the extra content? EA and Treyarch were insightful enough to get third parties such as Intel to pay for extra content by placing advertising in the game. That is only one way of doing it.

Look at it this way Chaos - Dragon Age DLC - free. Mass Effect DLC - free.

The addons for Battlefield Vietnam and 1942 added more than just 5 maps - but I should point out that BFBCs additionals will also be free. Command & Conquers addons added additional Single Player missions -- which obviously expanded the Multiplayer as well.

I'm not against DLC at all ... far from it ... but they shouldn't charge ridiculous prices for it. Basically, you'd be paying $15 for 3 new maps - 2 of the maps are old reworked ones. Wonder how much development time goes into recycling a map.

Now dear friends, we see the real reason for IW.net. Had the modding community not been given the finger, there would be countless more community created maps AND community re-creations of the "DLC" maps if they were any good. Activision's way, you either fork out or stop playing MW2 as the playerbase moves on to the new maps. They call it DLC, but its a lot more like a subscription.

Of course EA/DICE capitalize on the opportunity again by announcing its map packs are going to be free. We can already see the strength of our local BC2 playerbase/community compared to MW2. There are slots for 200+- players locally across the game modes on the SGS/iGame servers and they are packed, they actually need to add 2 more 32 player servers.

Well with regard to the price of the MW2 DLC, just look at the price of the game? It was by far the most expensive PC game I ever bought and I feel it was worth every cent.

EA will introduce a few free maps and then I hear are also planning on releasing DLC which will cost us.

I agree with this. If they were Valve maps maybe I would have considered. ;) Addons for Borderlands also added more than just a few new maps and are priced at $10 each (to reply to a previous post). I never got the point with special multiplayer maps though. Sure I got a few extra maps with the premier edition of RA3 but anyone connecting to play with a player who has the map will have it downloaded to their pc if they don't.

Another argument I heard is that "DLC=incomplete game, thus we cheat". This logic is really killing gaming in the long run. :( I'd happily fork out R80 ($10) once every few months to extend a game I loved. On the obvious condition that the quality of the DLCs are on par with the rest of the game.

At R500 I feel the game offers far less value than its predecessor did. And sadly for Activision, I'm not buying the game, ever. And as the guys on Kotaku stated - at $15 this set of DLC is the most expensive DLC to date - and given what they give you - again, not good value. The argument that DLC should be expensive just because the game was expensive just doesn't hold water with me.

I saw Mass Effect 2's box in store - also at R500. However, it was the Special/Collectors Edition. Now that, I will fork out R500 for. As for MW2, with its weak SP campaign that I finished in 4 hours, and MP that I can't LAN with my mates unless I go online - sorry, seriously weak value proposition for me.

For me MW2 has been great value for money (not as good as BF2 but great nonetheless) and playing the game has been great fun. Gaming has saved me thousands of rands over the years and that's how I look at it. If I weren't gaming online with my buddies each night, I'd probably be out drinking with them and that would probably also lead to my wife wanting a divorce. So yeah good value all round for me :) Do you know what a night out on the town costs these days??? R500 is cheap for weeks of entertainment!

That's exactly my point. I didn't get weeks of entertainment out of it. I got a couple of hours. Whereas I've probably played a little over 10 hours of Dragon Age and I'm probably not even half-way yet. For online gaming I stick to MMOs. For FPS multiplayer I go to lan's - where I can't play MW2. And nights out on the town aren't really a factor - since I never bothered with that anyway - I've got other ways of keeping myself entertained, in that sense, gaming actually costs me more than not gaming.

MW2 was rushed out the gate - IW said as much, they weren't keen on sending it out so quickly after MW in the first place.

dude 5 maps isn't following the Trend of a DLC, thats like skimping hectically and BF1942 Expansions where on disk

6 hours? Where do you get that? I've played over 200 hours of MW2 and that sir is great value in my book. Who buys a FPS for the single player these days?

Re- railing topic :)
It is priced more than normal DLC for the Box and while it does add 5 Maps in MP, which I'm sure a lot of people are going to buy, I would wait to see if this translates onto the PC platform or not.
I remember the uproar when COD WAW had DLC that was charged for on Console but free on PC, so this might be the same scenario, let's wait and see shall we?

sure the new games look great but i still prefer cod4.
Mainly because of the simplicity. Start the game, join a server and play.

I think they are speaking about MP not being an option unless u have someone willing to host the game who has a 4mbps line and thinks nothing of using up gigs of international bandwidth per hosted session. Likewise for each player connecting they have to use international bandwidth to play as well. I speak under correction here, can't remember if local b/w can or can't be used for MW2.

I certainly won't be buying the game until it hits the bargain bin for the reasons outlined above.

Why anyone would pay $15 for a MW2 map pack is beyond me. I'd much rather get the BF:BC2 map pack for FREE! IMO BF:BC2 is the better game by far anyway. I don't know how finding a match is for the PC guys, but with MW2 it takes me anything from 5 - 20 minutes to get a match on PS3, BF:BC2 finds a match in less than 5 seconds.
