Well with a modern combat gaming being released every few months (and making a bucket load) its probably safe to say that Activision is going to try and continue this series for as long as possible (as Activision is known for doing).
I think it's because modernwarefare3.com was redirecting to the Battlefield3 site a while back, and someone's already registered callofdutymw4.com and they don't want to take the chance it'll happen again, just in case
