Activity competitions useless for attracting new or inactive members

the origin of the conflict was your zealous members reading incorrectly. Of everyone that replied only one member read it properly was Metalsoup. Since this has been moved to a new thread, my initial claim that this competition being useless for attracting new or inactive members under the impression that that is the purpose is now out of context and as such this thread by itself is useless.

You are only here for free things. Why do you care so much?

I for one was attracted to the forum by an Activity Competition, as were a few others that joined at the same time as I, Tom and blaaislaai off the top of my head. We're still here 1.5 years later, so if that is the aim of the competition then it definitely worked that time. Granted, a PS4 was up for grabs at the time, but if newbies stuck around after every competition they'd see quite a large number of great competitions with varied prizes are held throughout the year. It is definitely hard to be a newbie on this forum, I'll admit. Longtime members can be a bit hostile but I think it has a lot to do with how people present themselves (and very much to do with people disappearing right after a competition is over).

My reading is different. It was your escalating reaction to their posts.

Ol' E-Soup is a MyGaming treasure! :D

I have edited the OP to provide context. Your fight with long-standing members was a derailment of the original thread. Basic forum etiquette is to avoid unnecessary derailments, especially with negativity (tangential joke sub-threads are not as frowned-upon, for example).

Other forums would just delete your negativity to avoid it having a chilling effect on the fun discussion others are having. Here I try to avoid deletion.

Hoowee. I haven't even given the prize away yet and things have already got heated.

We have rules on personal attacks / namecalling on MyGaming. Feel free to express your opinion as strongly as you wish, but please refrain from making it personal.

Thanks!

Damnit. Now I have to go edit my second image.

Oh well.

My gosh! This thread is classic!
Newbs complainin' about comps on the forum.

At least I had a laugh, the most active user! Hah!
I will forfeit the entry to this comp just to prove him wrong! Hahah

But you have to give it to him, he is of comic relief.

Yup, not a regular occurrence, so we savour the moments where we can. :p

Bec people love to bitch and they feel entitled to free shit. Honestly if you don't like how the comps work then f off. Simple as that.

It's been a long day. Not a particularly nice one either. And I'm tired.

MyGaming is my home. The people here are my friends and I care about them a lot. The people here are great.

Sometimes the MyGaming forum gets very quiet and I start to worry whether it will continue going and then MyGaming gives away prizes and the forum gets busier again. Some of the people that come here for the prizes stay and become regulars. Sometimes regulars who have been here for years just disappear and we don't hear from them again. I like the newbies coming here and I like it when they too become part of this great community.
Slitza, you are not one of them. Your attitude stinks. You appear to be a jerk. I can honestly say that we don't want you here... except if you change your attitude.

Everyone else, who may just so happen to be new to MyGaming or maybe you are a lurker, welcome to MyGaming. The people here are awesome. They are like family to me. Some haven't been here long. Some were here since the beginning.

Join us. We don't bite... most of the time.

Well said.
I consider a lot of people here my friends and u haven't met half of you. I'd trust them more so over most people I know in real life.

I've been registered for quite some time, but didn't really post. Then came back sometime late last year (think it might have been a comp at the time) and ever since I have been here.

Old members are definitely not hostile. Yes it does take some time to work yourself into the community, just like with a new group of strangers, but once you do it is great.

Starting off with negative comments, without posting any solutions or ideas to the things you find negative will definitely not help.

I just shed a tear reading that :)

Honestly I didn't even think the competitions were to draw in new members lol. I thought it was to reward members for their activity.

But I do believe it's a reasonable way to get some new traffic to Mygaming, and besides if it makes people stay then it is good.

Since there have been people that joined because they saw the comps I wouldn't say that they are useless.

I was almost completely inactive on the forum from the time I joined until about 2013. The only reason I started posting was because of an activity contest, and that was when I realised people actually cared about what I said.

No we don't. :p
