Adsl question

You will have no option but to disconnect, it will not allow more than one connection unless your router is in bridge mode. To keep it simple, yep. ;)

Oh no-no just connect to the Afrihost account and disconnect from the Afrihost account when you want to use Telkom. If you connect to Afrihost it should not give you any errors.

You have the same setup as what I do. The thing you want to disable is your LAN connection do not disable it. Just connect your Afrihost account when you want to use it and when you disconnect it you will be using your Telkom account.

Cool, one more question, will I need to disconnect from telkom when I use afrihost? Or can i leave it on.

It does it automatically

When you dialup through Afrihost the other connection gets disconnected on your pc. Until you disconnect your Afrihost account the other account can't be used on that PC.

Thats how the PPPOE connection in Windows works. Everyone else who connects to the modem/router will only be able to use the account in the router/modem so thats why there is an option to share the connection.

So if I connect wirelessly with my ps3, and I'm connected to Afrihost on my pc, will I be using them or telkom?

You should let your router connect to the internet and use it as a gateway instead of directly connecting from your PC. You can share the connection with your PC and PS3 then. Your PC will also be "hidden" behind the router and not directly exposed to the internet and incoming connections, making it more secure.

I never saw this thread, congrats Atchung :D!!
Enjoy all the online gaming :D!!

You will use the data from whichever ISP your router is currently logged into :).
That means if you're using Afrihost while you're online with your PS3 you will use Afrihost's data, vice versa for Telkom :).

Your PS3 will use Telkom since it can't dial up a connection that I know of

Not the case. I was having problems with my Telkom line at one stage, a friend of mine then let me use his Axxess account for some gaming, I just told my PS3 to "scan" (Forgot the word) for a connection to my router and it picked up my new details fine.

Well this is how it works. If the router dialed a connection to an ISP then any wifi device connected to it using DHCP settings will automatically use that dialed connection. Whether or not you dialed a PPPoE connection through your PC. That PPPoE connection will only be relevant to the PC that dialed into it.

So, if your PC is dialed into Afrihost then only your PC will be using the Afrihost connection while any device (your PS3 in this case) connected via wifi or LAN will use the ISP the router is dialed into, in this case Telkom.

How do I change it then?

You will need to change your routers settings to connect to the relevant ISP. I think some routers support that from inside Windows but I couldn't tell how that would work.
You were right. Turns out you go on the internet to the ip address of the router to change the settings.

I haven't had time to read entire thread but here is step by step instructions.

Using your keyboard, press the windows button and "R" at the same time. Type in "cmd" and press enter. A big black window with some text should show up. This is command prompt. In here, type "ipconfig".

Look at the text it spits out. Somewhere there, there it will say "Default Gateway.....: 10.0.0.1" or some other ipaddress to that effect. It could be 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.2 or whatever. Type this into your internet browser.

Now a screen will come up asking for your password and username to access the router. You should know this if you look in your routers manual or sometimes on a sticker under the router or it is probably "admin" and "password"

Go to basic setup or setup wizzard or something of the sort and leave all settings default and when it asks for your connections username and password, enter the details you got from afrihost.

Hope this helps you. Enjoy your free internet :D

P.S. This is the way you will be able to connect to your router using your PS3 or Xbox or smartphone or what-have-you and use this free internet from Afrihost
