Advice for a solid gigabit router for gaming

Hi guys,

I'm looking at getting a new router as I'm moving and I'm going to be getting better internet speeds.
I am looking for a good (preferably NETGEAR) gigabit router for gaming, because I like the netgear genie for prioritizing bandwidth --- I have +-R2k to spend.

Another thing is, I'm only getting a 10meg line, so is it necessary to go for gigabit or would something less suffice?

Well I'm very happy with my TP-Link W8980. Gigabit and dual band wireless. Unfortunately you want Netgear, which will limit your options somewhat

Something like the N600 (WNDR3700) maybe?


Also, no. gigabit will only be useful for your local LAN stuff (copying large files between 2 pc's, as i need to do regularly), won't make a difference for ADSL(gigabit is 10/100/1000, and your 10Mb line is therefore only 10...which any normal router of 10/100 will handle easily).

Thanks for the help man What is the TP-Link version of Netgear genie? Do they have good QoS capabilities ?

They don't have any "stand-alone" product like the Genie, but the router UI has quite a bit to offer (mine anyway). can have a look at it here
It does have bandwidth control, although I can't really comment on it as I don't use it. I just turn off wireless when I'm gaming if my latency spikes (frigging iphones and their cloud backups...)
