Advice needed regarding memory....

Hi

I currently have an ASUS Rampage III Formula motherboard which supports triple channel DDR-3. I am currently using 2 x 2GB DDR-3 modules in dual channel. The problem that I am experiencing is that my PC is extremely slow and I would like to know if this is being caused by running dual channel instead of triple channel?

3.06GHz i7, 2x gtx 465. it hangs during almost every app that i run and on exiting games I usually have to end the process manually.

Hi,

If memory serves (intended!), there are memory timing options in the cmos of those boards.
Perhaps have a look at the options and rock some trial and error ?

later

Check with the store you purchased the RAM from
Certain Memory Units are simply incompatible with certain boards, ie, Cheaper Green Memory and H55 Chipset motherboards for instance
Lead issues expereinced would be slow response times, BSOD and Applications not Responding

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to format and reload this weekend and hopefully it helps otherwise I'll get more RAM and will test the HDD's.

I'm currently using Corsiar 1333Mhz DDR3. The model is listed in the motherboard manual as compatible. I suppose I should get some more and actually run it in triple channel. :)

Unless you got a faulty batch of ram I can almost guarantee that it is not the memory. Hard drive failure could be a possibility but as you stated you have just purchases new drives.

Get a decent anti-virus (if you don't have one already) and run a deep layer scan overnight and see what turns up. Or, just go the format route as you said. I am pretty sure that the format will cure the issue.

Post your results. Will be beneficial to all to know what the issue was.

yes please post the fault that you have had so that we all know.

I would use some hardware diagnostic/monitoring to determing if it is hardware or software related.

You can also use trial and error like suggested by use a very simple setup and add hardware.

I agree with Orihalcon; probably not the ram, though getting more once your pc actually works can't hurt.
I would suggest triple checking that the power supply is actually up to the task of juicing your rig with quality power. Use an online power calculator to get a rough idea of how much you should need and compare. If you have a name brand supply then you can trust it's power rating and quality. No-name, beware....
