Alien: Isolation

So far, it seems like this game is really good, getting some very positive reviews. Probably not something I'll ever play, but I'm happy for Alien fans that it appears to have turned out way better than the previous piece of shit.

IGN 5.9 LOL! SEGA did not throw enough money their way again? Glad to see it doing well I may pick it up and use it as a laxative... Seems to be pretty scary.

Apparently it gets quite repetitive during the slower segments of the game - go here, push this button, go there pull that lever etc...

I still really wanna grab Alien Isolation on PC but I think Evil Within is gonna be the scarier game.

Seems to be dividing opinions somewhat with most negatives being some pacing issues due to it's long playtime (20-25 hours) and an unforgiving difficulty. Have it on pre-order on PS4 and looking forward to its arrival on Tuesday :D.

I've heard the same. I was really excited for this, but after some of the reviews, I don't know anymore. Please let us know!

Also, why no have you on PS4?

Lol you're welcome to add me, username same as here. Don't get online often though as i don't have internet at home just yet :p

Will definitely share my opinions of the game when it arrives. I don't mind an extended gameplay length. Nobody complained Diablo was too long when you're essentially doing the exact same thing throughout the entire game.

I liked those moments in dead space 2, where you wonder around for a while and nothing attacks you. You start to get that feeling, "I know something is going to happen soon" and every sound makes you jump a little. But if not done properly, can end up being boring.

2- - 25 hours is a lot longer than I thought this would be. That alone puts me off a bit. I'm not sure a game about evading a xenomorph can really retain its atmosphere and scare value if it goes on for that long.

I definitely agree with you there, but Dead Space and Alien Isolation are completely different. Dead Space was a combat focused horror game, so when those quiet segments come it really does make you tense as you have no idea when the next Necromorph will appear. Alien Isolation is definitely focused on being helpless with no weapons at your disposal but apparently those quiet moments are really dull and you don't really have the fear of a Xenomorph Drone being around each and every corner. Dead Space's quiet moments were varied as well with some puzzle solving and flashbacks etc...

That's just what I gather from reviews though...

So I decided to buy it on a whim and yeah... I got about 4 missions in before I had to stop and take a breather. I didn't even encounter the alien properly in those 4 missions. The only time I feel safe is when I hit the button on the elevator or tram and even then it's only a brief few seconds before it's back to the relentless tension.

I watched the first Alien film some time around the age of 8 and I remember being terrified of it for years afterwards. It was the only movie that legitimately made me scared of being alone in the dark. No other movie monster terrified me as much as this thing. Alien Isolation feels like I'm reliving my childhood fears all over again. It is the Alien game that Alien fans deserve. To hell with James Cameron's take on Aliens- this thing is fast, it's tough, it's deadly and it will hunt you ruthlessly. If it spots you then you'd better prepare to crap your pants because it's game over.

Glad I'm not the only one enjoying it. Only just seen the Alien in full for the first time but the tension is thick in the air regardless. Just wish they'd done a better job with the animation of the humans. It's a real let down in that department as everything else looking so good makes it really really jarring.

You need nerves of steel for this game. That thing. Nuh-uh.

If only it were predictable, but it's not. Every time you reload it behaves differently. NOPE NOPE NOPE.

Edit: So I slowly creep into the hallway I just came from. The xenomorph slides out of the roof, rendering me catatonic while I cower in fear under a gurney. After a few moments I hear it stomp off so I risk going towards my objective, only to come out from underneath the gurney while the alien is staring right at me from the opposite end of the hallway. I panic, jump up and start running towards the dark room and proceed to hide in a corner. I hear it stomp after me and its footsteps pass me by, while I'm staring into the corner because I'm practically pissing myself by now. A few moments of silence and I start thinking I might have gotten lucky, but nope. A tail comes bursting through my chest.

Honestly the best survival horror I've played. The randomized behavior makes it incredibly tense.

I'd actually love to make a let's play on this, but I think mostly people would get bored because I play very slowly. I've only just hit mission 6 and it's proving very difficult because cupboards no longer hide my scent and the alien always smells me in them.

My average play session goes something like this- hide underneath a desk/bed/cupboard for a few minutes. Move to the next hiding place, stay there for a few minutes and so on until I finally get to my objective.

Ok got my key today so you guys say i didn't make a bad choice by choosing this inn my amd bundle?
Definitely not. It isn't perfect but the tension and atmosphere is palpable. Only thing that's a let's down imo are some of the cutscene and human facial animations/lipsyncing but the gameplay is great from what I've played so far.

Most awkward double post ever.

@Brendanvb, how far have you gotten? I'm very stuck on mission 6. I know where I need to go, I have the keycard to get there, but the alien just keeps killing me. It's crazy. Oo

Haven't played again today yet (curse having to work!) so I'm still on the mission you spoke of earlier where the alien comes down from the vent for the first time. Have to go search the rooms that were on the doctor's rounds.
