Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier gives you more power

If you can afford a gaming laptop then I think money isn't really an issue.

You can't say that for sure. Some people will stretch the finances until they can afford something, leaving little money over for this device. But that is not the point that I wanted to make. The point was that the device is expensive and cumbersome and offers little advantage over a gaming PC.

Still end of the day gaming laptops are at a significant premium over their desktop based equivalent and I can't see why someone would voluntary buy one over a desktop. So from that perspective I believe someone who could comfortably afford a gaming laptop as well as the cost to replace it every 3rd year to stay up to date with the tech, I don't think the cost here is going to be an issue.

Convenience? If I could afford a gaming laptop like that, I'd by it in a heartbeat. Being able to pack up my gaming device and go have a quick LAN at a friend's house without all the tedious carrying of components and setting everything up would be awesome.

It's the main reason my group of friends don't have LANs any longer. Despite a LAN being a lot more fun, we rather just play together over the net because it's too much trouble to lug a desktop PC around.

I won't say "Gives you more power", more like, "Gives you your power (being your GPU)" then amplifies the GPU powering the laptop.

Actually, both sound/read equally as truthful.
