Alienware's new X51 gaming PC revealed

looks AWESOME! wonder how much of a premium we will have to pay for it here in good old Souf Efrika ? :-(

If the MX17 sets you back about R18000 this sure is going to be R10000

ooh its sooo purdy!

@Hiro, remember Wantitall has to pay import duties and depending from whereh they buy their stock also other taxes, hence the huge price difference

Hmmmm, trying to order now to get pricing in rands, just to pass out :P "Please call a Dell local distributor to order.
Sorry, but this item is no longer available for purchase online. Please contact your sales representative for details on how to order."

Yea... No. Price to Spec ratio is about 10:1 :/ Would rather buy a micro-ATX board and make a tiny gaming system for way less.

This is not a PC xD Its a Laptop built into a good looking case and is then sold as a pc.
Price wise expect the default model to set you back a minimum of 10K xD Excuse my french but c'est putain folle.

I could never quite wrap my head around the apparent desirability of Alienware PCs. It always feels like you're paying a a ton of cash for a label, and that if you were to assemble a PC with similar hardware yourself, you're not going to pay a fraction of that price.

+1 To you sir.

That's exactly what it is. Take a look at my Sig Rig, if that was put together buy AlienWare it would cost in the range of R40 000 xD I paid roughly half of that for mine. Its just a Brand and a overpriced one at that.

You guys are all on to valid points, but my heart has already made its decision, I would buy that , no questions asked, on sight

The thing is, you can hit 200km p/h in a Mercedes or in a Modified Cortina 3L Bakkie (Chocoloate Brown with one Yellow Door), which would you rather do it in though ?

The thing is, having a flashy car isn't the same as having a flashy PC. How often do people see your PC? Mine is only seen occasionally when friends come over, and it's definitely not something I put on display.

A Mercedes will look, feel, sound and drive differently than a Cortina Bakkie. An Alienware PC will look a bit more flashy, and that's more or less it. :p

But eh, to each their own. For me just owning a powerful PC is good enough. I don't really care what it looks like (I'm still using an ancient case that originally came with my PC 9 years ago).

If it were reasonably priced, I might be singing another tune, but it just isn't worth the extra cash to me.

Mmmm You can't really compare them like that xD
Its true what Graal says, Alienware makes gorgeous looking stuff, but they overcharge just because it looks good.
They don't perform any better, They don't run cooler, They aren't faster, yet they feel the need to charge massive amounts of $$ because some of their stuff looks cool.

Even this X51 pc, is a laptop that was put into a custom built case and is then sold as a pc, the default specs are crappy, considering you can buy a pretty good set up for the same amount and it'll eat the X51 alive.

To each their own xD They charge a premium because they can, not because the hardware they sell is worth it.

AlienWare is all about bragging rights.
If you want bragging rights drop me a pm and I'll sell you the mother of all Enthusiast gaming rigs, which will totally rip any alienware product apart and it'll still be cheaper than their high end gaming rigs. That includes you're custom nick name/slogan cut into the side panel and a custom paint/vinyl/carbonfibre job.

Give this man a... bells!! Btw is it me or do ALX PC's cost more after Dell bought them?

Also, doesn't buying an Alienware PC mean you have to send it in for any physical technical issues you encounter, regardless of how big or small the issue is and trying to fix it yourself voids any warranty/guarantee you have on it?

That's pretty much enough reason for me to give it a skip right there.

Joker how much would a similar pc cost with the idea being small as possible?

Well taking their default system specs, this is what I came up with, sticking to the mini itx theme.

Core i3 2120
Intel H67CF Mini ITX Mobo
Lian Li PC-Q07 Mini Itx
Patriot G2 2x4GB DDR3 1600
Inno3D GTX550 Ti 2GB 192bit DDR5
Corsair CX430 PSU
Seagate 1TB 7200
Samsung/Sony 22x DVD writer
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

That comes to roughly R6900

So roughly R3100 cheaper than the AlienWare and still built with top quality products.
