Start your clocks, folks: You have nine months to save up the (presumably prodigious amount of) money needed to buy Alienware's shiny new Steam Machine. On Friday the company announced a September launch for its upcoming box, which Valve managing director Gabe Newell called the “full potential of what a Steam Machine should be.”

The details came out of Valve's Steam Dev Days conference in Seattle—a mystical gathering of developers, secluded in a conference room learning all of Valve's secrets...and then tweeting them out to the world, thank goodness.

We also got the barest of bare details on specs, courtesy of Hot Blooded Games CFO Dave Oshry. Alienware's Steam Machine is, as expected, Intel- and Nvidia-based, with a Haswell-generation processor—and that's all Alienware said. While other companies boasted about their specs last week, Alienware is still keeping a tight lid on its own machine. I can't imagine that it's higher-powered than Origin's dual-Titan Steam Machine (named Chronos), but we'll have to wait and see.

I'm interested. Though I will probably finish all of my 360 games before switching. Hmm I already voted in the poll that I will be an early adopter but thinking about it I will probably wait a little bit.

Would not mind getting a pair of the controllers.

The Steam Box is just a cool looking PC, one that I can put together at a better price.

Another niche/yet awesome product for the PC gaming master race. I guess there is no way this will ever be an option for gamers on budget.. Can't valve possibly subsidize these kits? Going out on a limb here lol..

Give it a couple of years, they're loosely building it off Gate's original idea to have a trade-up system in the PC market. If Valve can play this right, the possibilities are endless and opportunities for new business will grow.

Lol Necuno... Unfortunately i think most people will go this route...

Its great that they have made it so accessible that you can install the OS on anything, but also not great for there machine sales...

i wotn lie im not too interested in this but my mate sent me a pic earlier and i think ti looks sexy !

It's time for an upgrade, so I might consider a steambox. Will reassess when I'm ready to make the move.

You have the option of choice in brand and spec, unlike mainstream consoles. This alone intrigues me beyond words, it could lead to cheaper, better hardware for everyone and more people playing DayZ.
