Hey all

I'm in the market for new ISP, going to mainly be playing some CS with it, and maybe some after hours downloads, nothing heavy... Tell me what ISP and package you are with, and how has your experiencing been ingame with CS, any packet loss, spikes etc?

Thanks

Im with WebAfrica (Capped 60 + 240 gb 4Mb account), moved from Afrihost, who were absolutely horrendous (around november of last year). Im from East London (EC) and my pings are around 50-60 on SA servers. I usually manage to get 40 on local MM games. Everything seems smooth and I'm usually happy. Generally if I have ping issues or variance issues on a server, I'm not alone (ie its server side).
SA Servers are 64 tick tho :(

Have only been here good things from Web Africa's capped accounts as far as gaming performance goes, thanks for the feedback!

FWIW

I don't CS but I do BF4.

Currently on a Vox capped account on a 2mb line and getting pings of 10~15ms. That's OK in my books.

Web Africa uncapped here, I pretty much never have issues in games. However our CSGO deathmatch servers are mostly run on potatoes so your experience there may vary wildly no matter what ISP you're on.

im with Afrihost.. i just have one word.. Capped.. for some reason afrihost cant sort out their shaping with some servers and so your upload gets totally borked making it have 40% packet loss and 300-1500 ping. so i'm now on very happy on a 150Gb capped account with afrihost and everything works perfectly.

Generally for CPT people WA works best, for GP people IS is best due to the breakout points.

Just try a bit of everything & see what works. On balance I prefer IS based for local gaming.

Shaped / uncapped etc should have minimal effect on gaming unless the ISP fk'd up.

On Afrihost 150GB capped and haven't had any problems playing CS:GO - low sub 30 pings with no spikes. I stay in Joburg so that may have an effect on it.

Well add Axxess to that list then, decided to go with them, because few people at work recommended them, went with the 10mbs uncapped, after I hit 200gb, started getting 40% packet loss in CSGO, their support person advised me that it's because my account is being "managed"... what a fucking joke... Who is this "IS" you speak off? Excuse my ignorance.... At least my adsl line is being managed through telkom, so hopping between ISP's every month till I find the right one is a quick and painless exercise

Mmmmm interesting, I thought that was the catch there, because it works out very cheap, thought for sure they'd be shaping those after hour downloads... Thanks for the feedback!

no next morning all my stuff is finished downloading. and that 40gb anytime data might not sound like much but it is actually more than enough

That is screwed up wow! Had a similar problem with my wireless internet, but they sorted it out. CSGO is unplayable with any kind of loss, so I feel your pain!

40 Gb  that might be more than enough for you but damn.. that's like one game.

no that is just your peak time data. games and movies and all that other shit you download with your off-peak data (160gb) between 12am and 6am

Think I'll go for the 90gb anytime + 360gb after hours, if I do go with WA, but R299 seems ridiculously cheap for 450gb worth of unshaped data

You misunderstand. its 40gb of the "anytime" cap, and then you get 4x that (i have 60gb anytime, so 240gb) of the Night data, which is active between 00:00-06:00. I went from uncapped @ afrihost to capped webafrica, where i used to use about 250-300 a month. Since on uncapped your torrents etc are painfully slow in the day anyway, was very little effort to just condition myself (scheduler helps hehe) to torrent/steam update only during those times. Except now if i really NEED something (big software download for work), it goes faster.

I basically worked out if i download MAXED from midnight to 6am on my 4MB line every day of the month, I'll JUST JUST reach the 240gb cap. :)

I've only once or twice run out of anytime cap on the last day of the month, due to needing to update something, or stupidly downloading a series we wanted to watch same day :P

EDIT: i took too long to type all that out, MalicE beat me to it :P
