Alpha protocol

I like NWN 2 OC more than NWN 1 OC. While I thought BioWare's expansion packs where better than Obsidian but that's mainly because of the severe lack of story that nwn 2 storm of zehir had.

Never had any crashes with nwn 2, the oc ran and still runs very sluggish on vista/win 7 while the expansions run fine.

On KOTOR 2 I would put the blame for that at Lucas Arts door in wanting a rushed job more than Obsidian. Maybe Obsidian is to blame for agreeing to a project with that tight a deadline but at the end of the day lucas arts rushed the release when obsidian told them it wasn't done.

Drm revealed. Don't know uniloc so hopefully it won't be too bad.

SEGA has told Eurogamer that spy role-playing game Alpha Protocol will use Uniloc DRM on PC.

Uniloc came under fire in November 2008 when Football Manager 2009 owners had trouble authenticating games online. SEGA said that was due to high demand and a small key-printing hiccup.

Actual solid details on how Uniloc tools work are hard to find on the company's website. However, we're promised a "polite" and "unobtrusive" DRM solution that will run "without compromising [your] experience".

Alpha Protocol, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, will be released on 28th May. Eurogamer played the game in March; our hands-on impressions contain our thoughts.

Game has gone gold:

Sega is very pleased to announce today that Obsidian's espionage RPG "Alpha Protocol" has gone gold and is headed off to manufacturing. Alpha Protocol is scheduled for release on June 1 in North America and in Europe on May 28 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Alpha Protocol unites role-playing, stealth, and action gameplay into a single experience that captures what it feels like to operate as a modern day spy. With production values on par with a blockbuster action movie, the consequences of the player's actions in the high stakes underworld of arms dealing can be explosive. Perhaps unleashing on suspected terrorists with the Pentagon's latest weaponry is the best move... or maybe just stay in the shadows and stay cryptic in your interactions. There isn't a single correct approach.

Alpha Protocol ups the stakes in the RPG genre with the integration of the innovative Dynamic Stance System (DSS), dialogue tech that allows the player to pick a ‘stance’ instead of a direct answer. Players need to think on their feet, because in Alpha Protocol a key weapon IS choice – and every decision not only shapes your relationships with in-game characters, but it changes the entire world around you.

BTW. Need an opinion. Do you guys think the preorder weapon pack is worth paying R50 more and maybe having it delayed due to shipping issues. Trying to work out whether to go with steam or bt games, bt has the weapons pack but currently they are more expensive than steam. Taketwo is about the same once shipping costs are taken into consideration but like steam they don't offer the weapons pack.

Just a bit longer ... Can't wait :D

@Stefan9: It guess it comes down to personal preference, I'm definitely paying the extra R50 for the weapon pack even though I have no idea what weapons are in the pack. I just want everything that is available for this game on release day, I wish there was a CE. As far as steam goes, I don't think I'll ever buy a game that has a boxed version from steam. Call me old fashioned, but I want something that I can hold in my hands and add to my collection.

I used to have the same mindset but having steam for the last month or so I totally changed my mind. Now I will go retail for ce's and if their is a compelling reason. Now if the games had real manuals like in the old days I would change my mind but I don't see that happening.

Knew I should have gone with steam. Local release pushed back to 4 june. Last time I go with the local retailers when it comes to normal edition. Had it with these delays. Not going put up with this for each and every release when I can get it on time using steam.

Reviews so far is totally mixed. European sites seem to be giving the game higher scores while the US review sites aren't liking it. What seems to be the issue is that some reviewers were expecting a shooter/hybrid like me while this is much more of an rpg.

Reading the specific rpg forums around most people there like it.

Will give my feedback next week when the local supplier finally get it together and deliver the game.

I am looking forward to it can't make up my mind about this game. But then again Would my pc be able to run it and would I have the cash for any games atm.
Steam got a preorder specail on where you get Space siege with it.

Whoa. After reading some more about this game is seems uber buggy. Well, what else did I expect from Obsidian?

Don't know what to think yet, maybe some patches will help, but I think I am going to wait a bit on this one before I rush out and buy it. The info she's not looking good.

A buddy picked this up today I assume from a BT store. So its out here.

BT games send me an email saying its delayed till 4 June earlier the week. Haven't got any emails or sms to collect from them either today. I also checked with taketwo who told me they were informed the date is 4 June by the suppliers.

Will give BT brooklyn a call tomorrow morning but pretty sure its not out .

Edit: It seems we were talking about different versions of the game. Just checked it seems for some reason the local release of the pc version was delayed but not xbox 360 version. Haven't found out the reason. Can't think of logical one seeing as the pc and xbox 360 version were released at the same time for europe,us and aus. Probably has to do with some shipping reason which again reinforces my mindshift to from now on to use steam for regular edition games, just had enough of these delays. Last 5 games I have preordered has been hit by some shipping delay.

On the game from reports that only thing that worries is the fact that there is no manual save only the horrid console checkpoint system for both versions.

Else than that so far reports I have read are positive. Game has the odd buggs and such but I expect that with obsidian games and have always put up with it due to their awesome writing. I expect the same here.

Yeah forgot to mention my buddy got the PS3 version (which I am likely to get as well). Sucks the PC version is delayed...

I was planning to get it for PC but the game seems designed with console in mind, and supposedly the lockpicking mini-game is easy-mode on PC but a nice challenge on console (it really means nothing if you think about it). Also I like getting trophies these days. I may very well change my mind like I did for DAO if the PC version has something going for it that I really would like, otherwise I go with console variants.

I just wish Obsidian would work harder at quality control, they seem to really mess that up. I never got anywhere in NWN2 due to an initial release bug, and a few months ago even when fully patched I could not progress past a point. Niggly game stopping bugs give me a migraine, and I am so over fussing to get passed them (I read the game has none, just annoying ones).

Will continue to do research on the game, and decide where to go from there.

Anyone playing it would you be so kind as to give The Good and The Bad once you get some time sunk into it? I would be most appreciative. Wlad, I am looking at you for help :p

Will let you know after I've put some more time into it, working till 17:00 today so I'll probably be playing the whole of tonight.
