Alter one rule for any sport to make it more fun to watch

I was discussing football with a friend the other day and because I don't really like football, I like to give him shit about it. Inevitably we came to the part of football players taking a dive for no good reason, and there should be some kind of penalty for them doing it.

Thinking back on that discussion, they could make football more entertaining by having players who take a dive for a fake injury, being subjected to the actual injury they were taking the dive for.

If you could change one rule in any sport to make it more entertaining, what would you change?

In Rugby Union I would change the amount of players on the field to 14 instead of 15. I'm not quite sure yet whether I'd drop a centre or a loose forward. It would just allow for more space on the field and thus more running rugby.

I was thinking that each player should be allowed to kick another player once on the shin per game.

In soccer, you should add a point for every successful pass, and those points get added to your score when your team scores a goal. If the opponents get the ball the score is reset and starts counting toward their goal.

Formula 1 : Oh god, where to start. No restrictions on anything other than the length and width of the car. Give active suspension, let them run with 7.5l turbo charged V12s if they want. Hell, let the run with nitrous if they want. 6 wheels, go for it. Adjustable wings, fair game. Gigantic air intakes, who cares.

Allow athletes to use as much steroids as they can consume, they must be allowed to have sponsors perpetually pumping them full of steroids.
I would watch them compete, of course the steroid rage would also be fun to watch...

Just imagine, 100m, 5 seconds flat, shot put that would put a howitzer to shame, discus throw that'll bring down Boeing 747s...I'm exaggerating but hulk types doing sport would be fun to see.

Some people may think this a stupid idea, but I completely agree with you. Honestly, at this point in time, you cannot stop athletes from taking some form of performance enhancing drugs. Whether or not the IOC knows of the new drugs they are taking or whether or not they can be detected, they are taking them. I was part of that crowd for a long time in my life, and honestly, the 2004 SA Schools athletics team sent for the African Games had not a single person that wasn't on performance enhancing drugs of some kind

So, let them take it. Let them openly use these to enhance their performance and become even better, faster, stronger. Just openly advertise that fact, and the stigma behind these drugs will be lifted. Better control can be practiced when it's fact that everyone uses drugs. And, for the purists, keep "clean" competitions separate from the drug fueled megamen

Fencing - Any sword may be used...

You mean like the sword from Heavy Metal FAKK 2? (Great game....wish they would make another.)
