AM3 Motherboard & DDR 1333 Pricing

I plan to replace my (broken/faulty) hardware:

•AM2+ Motherboard (Biostar - both mobos broken/faulty)
• 2x 2GB DDR II 800 RAM

with...

• AM3 Motherboard
• 2x 2GB (8GB, preferably) DDR 1333 RAM

What price range would I be looking at? I won't have a very big budget (anything below R1 600, if possible), but would like something substantial.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

An AMD Athlon Quad Core CPU

Edit: I'd go for an AM2+ Motherboard, if I could find one - just don't want 2nd hand goods.

LOOK FOR SWOLLEN CAPS ON YOUR BOARD

If its only a few caps that popped then i might be able to fix your board for you.

Will check it out later.

Was planning to just simply buy a new mobo though, but, I'll check.

Are AM2+ motherboards still sold?

doubt it, unless you find dead stock somewhere

im guessing the cpu that u have is an athlon II X4 ?

I Have corsair value select ddr3 2x2gb (4Gb) that i bought last year that i would love to sell!! I am upgrading to 8gb dominator now for BF4 so i won't be needing it anymore. Plus corsair comes with lifetime warranty

Would a Core i3 with 4GBs of ram suffice for games like Borderlands 2; Skyrim; Battlefield 3 ect.?

atleast its not as gebreek as bf4 :p

They had a year to get it where it is at now :D

@Hagan, I would really go for a high-GHz i3 or i5, personally I believe in buying once every few years, and then spending more than I want to on everything.

Studying from January, so I'll need a PC soon, and will only have enough for what I've mentioned.

Definitely, Borderlands 2 won't be much of a problem, skyrim will run fine as long as you do not use too many graphic enhancing mods and Battlefield 3 and 4 will work just not on highest setting obviously. With what graphics card are you planning on playing?

A GeForce 8800GT, but want to see how well games will run on onboard graphics card.

if you wanna use onboard gfx get an amd based system, the gfx cores in their apu's are pretty impressive and you'll be able to game in 720p at medium graphical settings for most games. also remember you will be able to run hybrid crossfire if you get a compatible amd gfx card afterwards
