My wife bought me a Parrot AR Drone for our wedding anniversary! :)

Any of you folks on here that also has that luxury of owning one?

Oooh, nice. Is it the new one?

I'm thinking of buying the first generation one when the price drops, I can see so much potential for creating hilarity with it around the office.

Wowsers. Sorry for only replying now guys. Exams and work are ripping me a new one these days. Anyways: It's the AR Drone ver. 1. We don't have stock of the V2 yet in the country unfortunately. Here's a Youtube clip of some guy demo'ing his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkKeijmgXW0

All in all - it's a very fun toy. It's pretty damn fast and very easy to control. I absolutely love harassing the neighbours cat with this thing. I know the V2 AR Drone comes with 720p video feedback, whereas mine is still very much low res, but it still works!! :)

Whether it's worth R3000 is another issue. I'm glad my wife bought me one. It's my birthday and anniversary present all-in-one, but you have to REALLY want one to justify the pricetag.

Pros:

It's an awesome toy and flies properly. Not like these cheap RC helicopters you get. This thing REALLY flies.
It's very durable
The technology in this thing is crazy. Cameras front and bottom, sonar sensors, stability sensors etc.
Can actually carry some weight! It can carry a gopro hd camera!
Very customizable with aftermarket accessories.
It works with iPhone AND Android devices
You have a shell "hull" for indoor flight and one made for outdoor flight. It can fly in windy conditions! (up to a point at least)

Cons:
It's expensive
It's durable, but can still break if it crashes at an awkward angle.
Parts are pretty expensive, and at some point you WILL need them
Flight time is 7 mins - charging time is 1 and a half hours. You WILL NEED extra batteries.

Again - the pro's outweigh the cons. It depends if you really want one and have the money to spend on, what is only, a toy.

haha Thats cool. Yeah w/ expensive gifts its better if someone else pulls the trigger. Gets rid of the guilt.

Sonar sensors...how does that work?

7min flight time is a bit :( though.
