Amazon, the Brobdingnagian online retailer, is now allowing players to pre-order the PC iteration of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance for $20 - $10 less than its suggested retail price - in expectation of a January 9 release date.

VG247 claims to have even more information on the release, stating that both the Blade Wolf and Jetstream Sam DLC will be included by default with the PC release. That's not too shocking, as Konami recently bundled the game's DLC in with its console version at a new $30 price point.

If you need further proof of the price drop, Steam's holiday sale currently offers the game at a $20 price point while also corroborating Amazon's January 9 release date. It fails to mention when Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will begin to pre-load, but at least we the release date seems nailed down. Of course, if $20 is too still too pricey for you, you could take the advice of this CheapAssGamer forum post and score the game for $15 by using a coupon code at GameFly.

I gave this a pass on consoles but might give it a go as PC games are cheaper. Can anyone recommend this if I'm a fan of Metal Gear but not of hack/slash games?

It's Metal Gear only in name. That being said, it's one of the best hack and slash titles on the market though. The PC port was pretty lazy, but it's still a very good game.

It looks cool, but I watched the research stream and TB had switched to a controller so I'm not sure if I'll be getting it until it goes on sale. Don't really have a controller. Dark souls made me really feel that.

Thanks. I've enjoyed a select few hack & slash games so I'm not completely against them, but generally I find the genre very monotonous. Do you feel the storyline is quite important to the sega as a whole?

The storyline is somewhat laughable, even by Metal Gear standards tbh.

Hmmmm maybe I'll wait until it's in the bargain bin then. I've heard the game length is pretty abysmal at only 4-5 hours. Is that true? Metal Gear games have always had a nice meaty length (granted a lot of that was due to the hour long cutscenes all over the place).

And if a controller is used?

I didn't know anyone would ever consider to play it without a controller.

It's a lazy port in the sense that it's still using the super low resolution 720p textures of the console versions. 1080p resolution limit, etc. Compared to the PC release of DmC, nothing "special" has been done for Rising. It's a simple copy paste job.

Look I love Rising, it's batshit insane and the boss battles are cool. The soundtrack rocks, but overall it's just not as good as DmC.

One of the popular ones, Prototype

Prototype isn't really a hack 'n slash title though, not in the traditional sense.

The game plays a lot like Bayonetta (which is obvious, considering it's the same developers). I found DmC to be a lot more technical (and fun to play) than Rising though.

Much better to play to play these hack/slash games with a controller. I still believe they only belong on the console

Why only on the console? Surely its just goes down to the controller and it really doesn't matter whether its pc or console when you play? I use my controller on the pc for half my games.

So if DmC was one of the select few hack & slash games I enjoyed, would I enjoy this (having despised the original DMC games)? I asked about game length earlier - can anyone confirm the main campaign is really short? 5-6 hours?
