Im looking at buying a PS4 through Amazon, and just want to see if anyone has any experience shipping into SA from overseas with them ?

This is what I've found so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=596186

It seems it would be cheaper this way, but im not sure what import duties / taxes there will be etc, so dont know if it will end up being more expensive ? It seems to be too cheap on paper.

Thanks for the help!

When wanting to calculate all costs for Amazon, proceed all the way to checkout.

The total you will see is the cost of the item, the shipping and customs/import taxes.

Let's say Amazon adds R500 to your order to cover customs, but it only costs R300 for customs. Amazon will then refund that money back to you.

So the total you see at the end of your order is the maximum you will pay.

Amazon.co.uk now offers free shipping to South Africa, but the total cost is slightly higher I believe.

I'm not sure about the total cost of PS4 from Amazon.co.uk, but I have ordered some BluRays from them the previous time they had free shipping. You should keep in mind that VAT is subtracted from the price you see on Amazon.co.uk, so you end up paying less than the price on the website (you do see the correct amount when you check out, like you said). I know you are supposed to pay VAT here when you receive the package, but for the life of me I can't recall if I actually did when it arrived.

Only certain items provide free shipping. Most items that are sold and fulfilled by Amazon.

Important Message
Sony PlayStation 4 and InFamous: Second Son (PS4) cannot be shipped to the selected address.

Amazon won't deliver those types of items outside of the EU.

This was attempted on .com, uk, jp, cn and fr. Looks like you'll have to buy it locally or attempt to find someone that will import you one, how ever a word of warning. Imported PS4 units do not carry a local warranty with Partserve/Ster-Kinekor, you would pay full repair charge if your unit becomes faulty or damaged unless you are willing to ship it back to it's country of origin which would be a fairly momentous task and cost quite a bit.

For example, if you were able to import one it would be 349 + 50 (An extremely rough guesstimate of shipping)** = 400 pounds x Current exchange rate (17.8487) = R 7136 + 7% of total value of item (excise) = ~R7600 for a base unit with no game.

Same unit is R 6,599 on Takealot.com

**Amazon is strange with shipping rates items of certain value/size wont have an option to be shipped standard mail/air freight they will be sent via UPS and 4Kg box at 650mmx350mm may cost a lot to express ship half-way around the world.

IMO, get one locally, less hassles when something happens and you're not going to worry about it getting lost on the way here or being held up in customs for weeks on end.

***EDIT

Under correction here, I was trying to purchase a bundle instead of the plain PS4 bundle. Disregard my post completely, I am a idiot.

Amazon.com won't ship the PS4 to SA, but Amazon.co.uk does.

It's not worth it due to the current exchange rate.

I'm not sure why your shipping costs are so high.

Your warranty would be with Amazon, who will replace the device if it is defective under 1 year. But the Brits always quote the EU Consumer Law to try to work around the standard 1 year warranty.

If you buy through Amazon and it gets replaced due to a defect or damage, Amazon will provide you with a prepaid RMA label to return the device for free, and if you somehow need to pay for the return, they will refund you.

It's a shame because Amazon.com used to ship the PS4 out here and it cost R4 900 in total.

I took the second shipping option, which arrives via a courier and Amazon does all the customs clearing.
The cheapest one which you selected means that you will have to collect it at the Post Office and pay import fees when it arrives.

How did you get it right? When I tried to process payment it told me it can't be shipped to my current address in South Africa.

I see, they will ship the standard console not bundles. My bad!

I would rather have my item of that value go through UPS than SAPO, SAPO does not care for anyone or anything pay a little bit more to get it faster and have a non-damaged item.

This is why you mark it as a gift.

SOMETIMES customs clears it without you paying.

Regardless of all that, I still prefer buying anything electronic locally due to warranties/repairs etc

Yeah I guess you might get lucky and not pay custom fees.

If Amazon US shipped to SA it would definitely be worth importing.

Yeah I wanted to buy it from Amazon.com due to the low price and my discount code on that marketplace only. Guess I need to buy another pair of headphones then

Thanks for all the responses guys, i was just trying to find the best way to get one, I was going to ask my dad to bring one in from Singapore in June, but if its faulty then i have no way to have it fixed.

Guess Im going local then!

Be careful with the shipping cost dude. I remembered planning to get a small RAM for my laptop for just $4, but the shipping cost was around $50.. F**k!! :D
