AMD 7870 + 7850 Review + Benchmarks

Yeah well I have a couple of months to wait for things to settle. Who knows, nVidia's new cards might heat up competitive pricing again.

Another issue with that...from what I have been seeing Nvidia will only be launching one card, supposedly a mid range card.
Some awesome specs on it but I'm worried about the price as Nvidia have always been overpriced as far as I am concerned.
Btw it'll be launching on 23 March, so not to long to wait :)

Prices on Landmark are as follows: (All prices rounded)

7750 goes for: R1300
7770 goes for: R1800
7850 goes for: R3300
7870 goes for: R4400

My eyes hurt after reading those prices... Excuse my french but do you guys see that huge fucking jump in pricing? I hope it's just a pre-launch price. Then again the 7700 range has been out for a week or two now. I wish we could nail companies for doing stuff like this. Soon the 7800 series price will lower. But they ALWAYS put a nice fat profit margin on it.

Well its Landmark what do you expect.
Prices will be over inflated at launch but thos prices are mental.
Hopefully they'll come explain why how $350 = R4400...LOL

Wootware has prices up on the 7850 at R3000 so just shop around. Landmark has never been cheap.

Its funny to see how hardware resellers put a fat R1000 mark up on products and when asked about it they claim to only add 10%..Yeah I am sure.

I am in this industry, Its what I do for a living.

When you get your dirty hands on pricing for your own 7850's and 7870's let us know! Maybe we should compare online items to local items? After including delivery and import tax... I did it with a 6870 some time ago and found out it might just still work out cheaper to import.

I have imported parts before.
Will check it out, If we get a group of guys to import together it'll save quite a bit of cash on shipping costs.
The only hassle is warranty, having to send the card back to the states. Will get in touch with New Egg and have a chat to them.

Ok so after screwing around a little bit I found something interesting, relating to the 7850.

The card can be overclocked to the maximum slider in overdrive meaning it can achive max overclock.

7850:

Stock: 860/1200 P5518
Overclocked: 1050/1450 P6501

Before you have to ask that is pretty damn good.

Also I found this to be interesting..I should actually post this on FB and spread it all over the SA forums.
Just to make buyers aware.

So that brings us to value where the 7850 hits a reasonable price point, competing with overclocked editions of the GTX 560 Ti. A drop of $20-30 would make it a much easier purchasing decision in that comparison but the 7870 doesn't suffer that. At $349 it offers gaming performance close to significantly more expensive cards and is therefore priced exceptionally well... we only hope that retailers don't try to mark the cards up based on this.
