AMD HD7870 and HD7850 specs + pricing

No, in terms of tech, a year is like a year. Four to five months is between one quarter and a half a year. Lets not try to redefine time now :)

And my understanding - based on various reading - is that the high-end Kepler (the GTX680 or whatever) will be amongst the first of the Kepler cards to be released. Ofc, the dual-gpu GTX690 will be released later, but that's hardly surprising. The dual-gpu 7990 - or whatever it'll be called - is still lurking in the wings, more than a month after the real release.

You missing my point..Nvidia has not confirmed a launch date for the new cards.
This is all speculation and not hard facts. As for 7990 it said to launch in March.

Again We have not seen pics of the 6xx series, we have no hard facts about it, no one does.

Oh and in terms of Tech...5 months after you're main rivals launches their flagship card is like a year later, as Nvidia have already lost a chunk of the market, and believe me...Its not gonna be easy for them to get it back.
The 7970 is a master piece, selling for less than current GTX580's 3GB's and completely destroying it.

We live in a world where people demand the best and fastest right there and then, if Nvidia's new cards aren't faster than AMD's new series I see a hard road ahead of them especially launching so long after their main rival's launch, as AMD are already reportedly working on their new GPU's.

Oh and I am not the only one that thinks this, do yourself a favor and check any decent hardware review site and get their thoughts behind this.

Oh and incase you haven't noticed AMD have adopted a seriously hardcore setup for their drivers. Their drivers are now better than ever, where on the other hand Nvidia have taken a nose dive in the department, constant driver issues, that just don't seem to get resolved.

If you read this and think I am an AMD fanboy, you're damn right I am..I own and have owned more graphics cards in my life than most people.

AMD are the new king of the Hill.

Also I am not getting dragged into an argument here :p

The proof is in the pudding and AMD have sweet yum yum omg awesome pudding where Nvidia has..Nothing..right now.

Not getting dragged into an argument, yet posting a response like that? That's almost like standing in one place and saying "Hit me on the jaw please!" :D

To speak to your points in order:

1) They haven't confirmed a launch date, but the spokespeople have said "first half of 2012". I'm sure that falls into my 4-5 month period? The exact launch date is somewhat irrelevant, frankly.

2) You tell me no hard launch date for the Kepler cards, then immediately speculate on the launch date for the 7990. Lol.

3) Again what? Neither of us mentioned anything about pics of the GTX6xx series. Random attack in attempt to look smart, but relevance fail?

4) Yes, undoubtedly Nvidia have lost a chunk of market share. I never said they hadn't, I was basically saying "look dude, lets get a sense of perspective here. Five months is still five months. Not a year AND a full product refresh." Read between the lines skill misapplication?

5) The 7970 may be selling for less here than the GTX580 3gb, but it isn't overseas. As an example, go search Newegg (traditionally, one of the cheapest places to find hardware goodies). The cheapest 7970 is $550 (with no rebate). The most expensive GTX580 3gb is $550 with no rebate. And you can get that down to $510 with the rebate...

6) As to a masterpiece, well, lets see what happens when Kepler appears. Then we'll know whether it's a masterpiece or not :)

7) After basically telling me speculation is stupid and bad, you spend a whole paragraph speculating. Tsk tsk.

8) I have been reading the hardware sites. Ofc, I don't know exactly what you're referring to in this paragraph. It could mean parts or the whole of the preceding 3 paragraphs. Anyway....

9) AMD drivers have sucked ass for the last 6 months atleast, ESPECIALLY where their high-end crossfire drivers are concerned. A hardcore setup now? I think they're just trying to fix the monumental fuckups they made last year. Whether they'll succeed is another question. Also, what evidence do you have that the Nvidia drivers have taken a 'nosedive'? I've got several friends running nvidia setups (SLI and single card), and I've not heard a single one of them complain about driver issues. Of course, this is anecdotal evidence, so if you have some empirical evidence to provide, by all means do so.

10) That's nice. I'm sure you are and that you have.

11) AMD are the new king of the hill (for now, but possibly not beyond H1 2012). Fixed for you!

Either way, whether the 7970 remains the king of the hill or not, Nvidia need to release their cards already if only to force AMD to drop their prices a bit.

lol I have say sorry xD I was slightly intoxicated last night...So I blame the captain xD

All point valid ect, I just think Nvidia have slipped up this time round. We'll see WHEN they finally launch their cards.
The 7950 is def another killer card. 14% slower than its big brother, so still faster than a GTX580 and retail will be around $399.
I think AMD have it spot on this time, Unfotunately our suppliers and resellers in SA are a bunch of vultures, adding huge mark ups on the new cards.

Anyway lets wait and see when Nvidia launches their cards.

Sorry again xD lmao

Much <3.

Sorry if I came across as a grumpy bear this morning. Must have coffee before posting lol...

I don't know if AMD have it spot on atm with their pricing, but come the release of Kepler, I suspect they'll be in a perfect position to undercut Nvidia's traditional pricing model.

It would be truly amazing if the 7850 retails for around R2000 at launch.

That would be incredible. Bugger high-end cards, I'd buy four cards for some quadfire funtimes!

misaligned launch dates are misleading. I like nVidia as a complete package and AMD for price-performance. The thing that AMD did right is bring out their card before nVidia.

Lets hope the added revenue and market share contribute to a better processor next time ;)
