This had to happen eventually, and it did just happen: AMD has dissolved the ATI brand completely, and consolidated ATI brands, such as Radeon and FirePro under the AMD main brand. Under the new branding scheme, new graphics products AMD launches (such as the upcoming Radeon HD 6000 series), will do away with "ATI" completely from the logo, marketing material, and so on, and the market will, as it already has been doing since the AMD-ATI merger, albeit informally, refer to Radeon/FirePro products as "AMD Radeon" and "AMD FirePro".

AMD explains its move as an "evolution of the AMD brand portfolio", saying that consolidation of ATI-branded products under the main brand results in reduced marketing overhead. It claims to have surveyed several thousand discrete graphics-aware users in in the U.S., U.K., Germany, China, Japan, Brazil, and Russia. The survey revealed that when made aware of ATI-AMD merger, AMD preference triples; AMD brand is stronger than ATI (against graphics competitors); and that people see Radeon and FirePro product names more conspicuous than ATI, indicating a "permission" to consolidate ATI into AMD. The survey was conducted entirely by AMD.

well this is interesting...

Interesting... Indeed, my if its called AMD Radeon i buy it cause i have had a negative expierence with the ATi brand, although it would been the product lmao.

I feel this is a stupid move. We talk about an ATI Radeon and not an AMD card. The brand (Ati) is surely more widely known for bringing excellent bargain cards to the market than a wannabe cpu producer.

BTW i have a wannabe AMD 1055t cpu and a nVidia 465gtx....

AMD is also widely known for bringing high end performance it a fraction of the cost, true they may not be as powerful and the i7 sevens but you don't need to sell your limps to afford the cpu only. I think brand wise it i a good idea since everyone knows AMD and Ati are one these days. So Bargain Card with performace matches there current cpu sales stratergy.

Btw the wannabe CPU producer topped the Intel giant a few times, they just a tad behind like nVidia was the best, depending on how you look at it, and now are sort of playing catch up.

well one bonus of this is it could sort out some confusion hey, i've managed to thoroughly stump some okes at the local pc shop, going in asking for the AMD Hd5870. they're like what? :p

Still doesn't feel right to ask for AMD card. If you have been as long as me in the PC industry, it just doesn't sound right but at a marketing/cost scenario it makes perfect sense.

You don't really have to throw curve balls to fool those okes :p

The other day I came into a shop asking about buying a Phenom II 965 and another HD5850 and the guy was like "A phantom what? What's a 5..58HD?" Ha ha :D:D
