So after a long wait the true specs have finally been leaked...and they looking awesome!!
Price is still a little bit hectic but these cards will perform well I reckon.

AMD would be launching its HD7800 Series of graphics processing units featuring the 28nm GCN Core Architecture in Early March – Codenamed Pitcairn, The series would consist of the HD7870 (Pitcairn XT) and HD7850 (Pitcairn Pro).



Specifications of both cards have been leaked which match the specs we reported a while back here. So what’s new in the HD7800 Series? A 28nm core powered by the GCN Pitcairn GPU used on two models, The Pitcairn XT which features 1408 stream processors, 88 texture units and 24 ROP’s, A 2GB GDDR5 memory (256-bit). The Core clock is maintained at 950Mhz and 5500Mhz for the memory. The HD7870 would retail for $299.

Its little brother, Pitcairn Pro based HD7850 would also launch the same day for a price of $249. This variant would feature 1280 stream processors, 80 texture units and 24 ROP’s, A 2GB memory buffer (256-bit GDDR5). The card would run at 900Mhz/5000Mhz for Core and Memory respectively. A 1Gb version of the card would also be available for $219, Specs would remain the same.

Another SKU, HD7890 which is based on the Tahiti LE core is expected to launch in Q2 2012, The GPU would feature the Tahiti Die instead of the Pitcairn and pack 1536 Stream Processors, 96 Texture Units, 32 ROPs. A 1.5GB memory buffer with 384-bit wide interface. The GPU would be priced at $359 at launch.

So a really strong Line up from AMD then. Remains to be seen what local retailers will charge us...
Card should be in the region of around R2500 for the 7870, but we all know that won't happen due to the shit nature of local retailers.

If the 7870 was R2500 I would have gotten that one, but I'm likely going to get the 7850 given the substantial markups we face here in SA...

Prices will drop, wait for the 7870! (Nvidia -hopefully). R2500 is 10x 250usd, which is more than it should be anyway.

Well the 7870 is $300 but it is a beastly card. I suspect it'll be faster than the current 6970. So R3000 would be a great price, unfortunately...this is SA...So I expect to see them launch at around R3500.
