AMD Radeon R9 290X review roundup

This should be AMD's new slogan

From what I know now, it will be very interesting to see how the GTX780 Ti performs, especially if Nvidia decides to not make it faster than the Titan. Their only option at that point will be a price drop, leaving Titan at $!000 because it's pretty much a Quadro for games.

Well since the card actually seems to be throttling its clock speed to maintain the 95 degree operating temperature it might be worth getting a water block. EK water blocks already have a couple of full-cover water block designs for the R9 290X around the $100 mark (Depending on local availability and pricing). That will bring the price up to what the GTX780 costs but with a much better cooling solution. Speaking as someone who's going to play a lot of BF4 I really want to try and go with AMD this time, but I'll probably wait till December to see the exact impact of Mantle before I make a decision.

Agreed, watercooling on the stock cards is the only sensible option without increasing noise too much. I was really surprised to learn that because of the new voltage tuning system that the card rarely hits above 900MHz with the stock cooler. There's literally a ton of performance sitting under the hood, waiting to be used. I can't wait to see what watercooling or aftermarket designs can do for it.

You probably won't have to wait until December either. AMD's having their APU13 conference in November and Mantle will be on their list of things to demo and talk about.
