AMD releases Catalyst 9.9

No, they'll be getting Catalyst 10 when the year 2010 comes..

That is how they name them...

Catalyst 9.9 = Catalyst September 2009, ie. 09 09...

Uhm, I've noticed that last month, as well as this month, soon after the Catalyst drivers are released, and I've installed them, an ATI driver update pops up on my Windows update.. It happened last month and it happened again this month..

Why is this? Am I the only one whose Windows Update is picking up these optional updates?

I have Windows 7, btw..

I also use Windows 7 and have not experienced what you describe. I am rolled back to Catalyst 9.7 due to the issues with Anno1404 which I am still playing. I find it a bit shocking that the same problem has now occurred in two consecutive driver updates where it was not an issue with the previous one.

I will ride it out with 9.7 until they release a driver that supports the 5870...

I have seen no noticable differences with 9.9 over 9.7, other than the whole UI change. Not sure what they are doing making changes to you GUI rather than fixing actual issues. :(
