AMD BullDozer Smashes CPU-Z World record!!

For what is believed to be the first time ever, Advanced Micro Devices has taken the overall frequency world record away from Intel with a CPU-Z validated 8429.38MHz at an event hosted at the AMD Headquarters on 31 August during the pre-launch briefing. The previous best for AMD was set by a Phenom II 955 Black Edition, which clocked in at 7378.25MHz.

Well at the price, I already phoned my supplier and pre ordered my top spec Bulldozer :)
Also the OC is incredible and I take my hat off to these guys, and considering these are pre production chips, they might still hit 9 Ghz or more :D

Was he able to give you a realistic price for it? I don't think they'll hit 9 Ghz all that quickly, basically since these are pre-production chips ;) The manufacturing tolerances are typically much higher for your prototypes and proofs of concept than the final manufacturing process. Once the process is matured and finalised, these tolerances will drop, and then we might see those big numbers. I think. :D

He did give me a gestimate but I can't share that xD
 
well based on the confirmed price of $266 i'm guessing it's gonna be R2500-R3200ish for the 8150
 
I'll try to be more impressed once we know what the real world [gaming, rendering, encoding, compression/decompression] of this family of chips is.

Is the 26 September launch date still on?
 
Ill be more impress with high calcs per second than with high frequency aka real world benchmarks and usability
 
But how will the cheaper Bulldozer chips compare to a similarly priced Core i5 2400. It would have to be mighty impressive to keep me from going Intel again.
 
It's an impressive feat no doubt, not that im skeptical but I like me some real world results. It's going to be a very interesting road ahead, but I have no doubt that AMD will win in the price per Ghz sector.

Yeah I totally just made up "price per gigahertz" :P
 
The theoretical limit is 10-12 GHz. Its got to do with the average length of conducting tracks in/through the CPU. Once you go over a certain frequency you turn the tracks on the CPU into radio transmitters. Signal gets broadcast instead of arraving at transistors :P the only way around it is to make tracks shorter and thinner, but even that has a limit. Basically everything is beginning to bump the limits of what can be done with electrons.
