AMD won't support DX 9 in Windows 7

I'm still trying to come to understanding on this all... does this mean that all new cards ATI make wont be able to play dx9 games? (because they wont be developing any new drivers for dx9)

No the new cards will be able to use dx9. All this means is they won't be making drivers for dx9 model cards. DX10 and DX11 cards will still be able to use dx9.

Windows itself will still support DX9 games, and players will still be able to used their DX9 cards in Win 7, but they will have to make use of Vista drivers.

so you would have to use old drivers to play dx9 titles in win7 for ati then. not like that is going to bother me really because i would just daul boot to xp for pure dx9 enviroment...

curious question: what happens then if you want to play an old game which is spesifically dx 9 ?

It would depend what card you have. If you an 2000,3000,4000 or 5000 card it still supported by ati so you would just use the normal drivers they put out for 7. Those drivers will still have dx9 in it , it just won't support the dx9 cards.

If you want to play with an older gfx card you will have to use the vista drivers in win 7.

i see it is dx 9 only cards, not cards supporting dx10/11 they would be fine with current and new drivers then.

That's always been the thing with ATi tho hasnt it. . . The drivers. Some games work with certain drivers and not with others. It's the whole reason I've always avoided ATi. Otherwise they make good cards. . . just a pity about their software.

Slipperyduck, that's the thing. AMD are trying to get rid of their past. The way the old cards were made makes it impossible for them to create proper drivers. AMD bought over ATI, which I am sure you already know, and they have made better cards ever since. Now they want to get people to use their new cards (some of them not that expensive. They did make new budget cards as well).

lol one day we might see proper drivers from ati... yet :D
