AMD's impressive $150 Radeon RX 470 is as powerful as a GeForce GTX 970

Well the RX480 is going to be $200 so the RX470 will at least have to be a few bucks cheaper than that.

Sure, but by that logic the RX460 will cost $100. There's a multitude of decent price points between $150 and $200, I'm just wondering if the author found confirmation somewhere, or if it's just regurgitating all of the rumours running around. As far as I know (before reading this article) the price is only going to be announced when embargo lifts on 29 June.

Small error in the article. The GTX 970 actually scores 9,568 according to the table provided. It is the R9 290 that scores 9,182.

*Edit: Jamie went Bob the builder on that article's ass and fixed it.

Can he fix it? Yes he can:cool:

Do we have confirmation that it'll retail at $149, or is this still just the rumour mill price?

Due to the expected AMD price range for these Polaris cards ($100-$200), it is pretty certain the RX 470 will be priced at $149, with the RX 460 expected to retail for around $109.

We will provide the official pricing when it is released, but these estimates seem rather accurate.

Reference cards should be at that price point. How ever board partners will put on custom coolers and charge more.

A leaked image of a XFX reference RX480 but it's clocked higher (1288) so it could be more than the RRP. The cards are also a lot cooler according to some sources and leaks to a reference cooler should be more than enough.

I think we'll see a similar situation as with the 1080 and 1070 launches where prices are out of sync (initially at least) as to what was announced, with the manufacturers and retailers trying to cash in on high demand and low supply.

There is a possibility that it may not happen, I think that is why AMD has a NDA on stock and reviews. They wanted board partners to get the reference, fabricate their boards, and start shipping it out as soon as possible.

Even if there is a stock shortage they are coming in way cheaper than the 1070/80. I am eager to see what the RX470 can do having a 110W TDP with 256bit bus and AMD claiming support for overclocking with voltage mod's. It looks be an awesome card. Although I might go the RX480 if the price/performance difference is better.

I'm also quite excited for these cards. Even the RX470 will be a significant upgrade from what I have atm.
The elephant in the room when we get to local pricing is, of course, the exchange rate.

I would price the RX470 stock variant at around R 2500-3000+ possibly lower for a reference card. When I get one it will be my first 256bit card and also my first card with more than 1GB of DRAM. It's crazy!
