I agree with the opinion in the article. Really straight forward and the way most of us did it.
I was into piracy simply because you couldn't afford and/or find any place that would sell Police Quest, Space Quest, Black Cauldron, Accolade's Grand Prix, Cal-games, Rise of the Triad, Prince of Persia, Montezuma's revenge and whatnot...
I now take pride in my original gaming collection and enjoy adding new titles to it when I can afford it.
The first title I bought legit was Day of the Tentacle - and enjoyed buying originals ever since. (Azimuth, you'll be pleasantly surprised to know that Gradius's epic collection of original games back in high school inspired me even further to get originals.) However, if you think about it, most of us bought originals way before we started pirating anyway - back when we all had our nintendo golden chinas with the 24-in-1's and mario and ice climber and double dragon and zippy race and so on...we had huge collections and even back then games cost us R100 each...so what changed?
I'm mostly into console gaming now on an unchipped xbox and enjoy it immensely. As for PC, I bought dragon Age Origins on pc and have only played about 30mins of it in total. Why? Because I trust Bioware and would like to support them. Modern Warfare on the other hand, i did pirate to play the single player campaign...my justification being that I have no intention of playing the multiplayer aspect of the game, which I believe to be the main focus of the game, but this does not give me any right or excuse for doing so.
On the fence-sitter part of things, I have played a bunch of pirated games on PC, but I have legit xbox copies of them...and I don't think it's piracy if you have a copy of a game but a pirated copy for a different platform. Since I see it as being similar to buying a music cd for your car/hifi, but then converting it to MP3 to play on your IPOD. Different platform and product software, but you paid for it. On that note, I enjoyed the Need For Speed titles on PC - most of them I pirated, but I now have pleasure in buying the xbox360 version of those titles (yes all of them - though some are xbox1)
Anyway, that's my rant on it.
