The ANC is a dying party, Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille said on Thursday.

Zille was speaking at a gala event hosted by the SA Institute of Race Relations in Johannesburg.

"There is a lot of tension and divergence in the ruling party. The ANC cannot save itself from the ANC," Zille said.

"The ANC is a dying party. A wounded animal is always the most dangerous. In the next 10 years we'll see just how...read more here: ANC is dying party: Zille

I really and truly hope shes right but I honestly believe the anc will still be around for a long time

I always likened it to an American slowly losing the ability to walk thanks to all the cheese in his diet but we can go with dying

I Agree.

The only problem, for me, is that they will lead to eventual economic meltdown if they keep on making the wrong decisions i.e. e-toll, and other matters that scare off foreign investment, as well as political unrest if they keep allowing people like Malema to run unchecked and uncontested in the streets. They do not have a strong opposition and that is why there must be less political parties as opposition. There are too many parties around and voters are too divided and segmented. There must be about 4-5 really big parties giving them a run for their money and that'll have the vote in parliament to keep them in check. That is democracy and that is great for the country even if the ANC is in power. Strong opposition leads to stability and sound governance.

It doesn't really matter how many political parties there are as long as the ANC does not have a clear majority. At which point parties can form a coalition to get certain motions passed/rejected. Right now that's impossible because the ANC by itself outvotes everybody. Right now, effectively, the ANC is the government, and what they say, goes.

So the focus right now should be the education of the youth and young voters, so we can have people on the ground informed enough to stop making votes based on emotion, and start thinking with their heads. As long as Zuma and other ANC leaders can appeal to people's feelings and not get called on whatever bullshit they spout, things won't change.

Sadly she might be confusing what she wants to happen with reality. I think the anc will be strong for a few elections still.

I don't know dude, they've dug themselves quite a deep hole with this e-toll debacle

Keep in mind who the majority of their supporters are...as long as they hand out free hamburgers and promise to the poor that "change will come" before the elections their strength will remain.
