That they are truly worse than EA and Activision combined...

NCsoft is closing Paragon Studios due to a "realignment of company focus and publishing support," according to a blurb just posted on the City of Heroes website.

Community manager Andy Belford says that the superhero MMO will shut down before the end of the year, and recurring billing (as well as Paragon Market purchasing) will be discontinued immediately.

City of Heroes originally launched in 2004 as the world's first superhero MMORPG. Belford goes on to say that more information will be forthcoming over the next few weeks, including a firm cessation date as well as "what you can expect in game."

[Update: NCsoft has told IGN that it is aiming for a November 30th closure date.]

ffs...

Arena net? you listening? find a new publisher... ASAP!

Slight over-reaction. Places close down, why exactly does that mean NCsoft some evil villain? Maybe come back when they have a detailed history of buying great studios and closing them down before their next launch.

you don't get it Monk, the game was still turning a profit for them, but immediate closure with all staff laid off?

right...

Thought NCsoft was bought out ay a Korean/Chinese company? Speaking under correction.

What is immediate closure? The game has been running for what, 8 years now, five of those years under ownership of NCsoft. They have even been free to play for a year. So I really doubt NCsoft would just close them down if they were really all that profitable. I'm really not understanding the outrage, the game had a good run and now it's over, that is life.

for all the information ncsoft has it for download on their website.

If you read the full thing on the CoH website you'll see that all staff have been laid off effective immediatly, all further developement halted and the studio closed down.

ag guess i'm just bitter, this the second time a mmo i liked got killed, and funny enough it's ncsoft again.

will be over it soon enough but frack man

You could look at it another way, two mmo's you enjoyed were published by NCsoft. :) I do agree though it always sucks when a game you enjoy gets the plug pulled.

Same here, very sad day indeed  I have been playing this on and off all the time and CoH has always been a game I could fall back to.

Same it was always a great little filler game...

I cant really say what went wrong and im sure they could done things differently. But I think the bigger issue is peoples expectations of how a MMO should be, so when CoH tried to follow those lines maybe thats when it started going pear shaped

I just wish they could make the server side available to some hosts so that the game wouldn't have to die out... but then yet again, CoH with its Paragon Market is not designed that way, so I guess this makes it impossible. :(

Sadly.. business is business ans thats what most of the AAA companies are all about.
There are usually good reasons as well for things these big companies do. Closing an office in one region might be a new office opening soon in another region.

Damn, was still planning on getting City of Heroes sometime. Guess it's no use getting into it when it's shutting down in a little over 2 months.
