This is getting ridiculous. First Risen and now l4d 2 as well. I feel sorry for the aussie gamers. Dragon Age Origins somehow got through without having to changing anything, developers said aus was the hardest board to get through.

The news that Left 4 Dead 2 will be effectively banned in Australia came as a shock to the folks at developer Valve, VP of marketing Doug Lombardi has told Shacknews.

"We were surprised to hear of this news yesterday," the executive informed us. "Obviously, everyone at Valve is pretty bummed."

Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification refused to classify Left 4 Dead 2 due to its "realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence" and gore, effectively banning the zombie shooter sequel as unrated games cannot be sold down under by law.

"It would be a shame if folks in Australia, or anywhere else, are unable to purchase Left 4 Dead 2 because of a ratings issue," Lombardi lamented.

Left 4 Dead 2 hits PC and Xbox 360 elsewhere in the world on November 17, packing a new cast, five campaigns, new enemies, and ratings board-enraging melee weapons.

They are getting crazy with this. But what stops ppl buying this game online then?

At the moment its illegal to sell not to own but they want to change the laws to make it illegal to own games banned in aus as well.

What will happen with l4d 2 is steam and import sales will boom.

I dunno what is up with them, do they really think they can stop ppl from doing what they want? They put stupid laws in place without asking anyone about it?

Australia currently is a very conservative country politically. That's what all this is about. Their game ratings only go to 15+ and they refuse to increase it saying it will damage the youth if they allow 18+ games.;)

Can you download teh game if your region is set to Aus? Wouldn't it be blocked?

Not sure but you can get an american or uk resident to gift you the game. Their are loopholes and the aussie goverment is trying to close those and are being met with stern opposition from gamers.

Ok, I don't understand why the Aus goverment don't just implenet an 18+ age restriction.
