The time has arrived to get a new PC here's the components I've been considering. I'll state my reason for choosing each component as well. I want you guys to please take a look and give your recommendations.
You'll notice that I'm only posting links to two shops: Takealot and Wootware. This is because I kept shipping costs in mind when calculating prices. Rebeltech is a few rand cheaper on the odd component, once shipping is included in the equation, it gets more expensive. But if a component is cheaper elsewhere, please point it out to me.
Budgetwise, if I can stay below R12,500 (OS included) I'll be happy camper, but I can stretch to R13,000 if need be.
I'm not worried about noise, even though I don't want to wake the neighbors when I boot the PC.
I don't overclock.
CPU (R2437):
Intel i5 4570
I was looking at the i5 4440, but then I saw Takealot have the 4570 at about the same price that other stores charge for the 4440.
GPU (R2299):
AMD R9 270
Question: The R9 270X is about R600.00 more expensive. Is the increased performance worth the 600 bucks extra?
Motherboard (R993):
Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 Motherboard - Socket LGA1150
Here's one area where I'm not sure at all. Is the B85 ok? Will a cheaper H81 board be good enough?
RAM (R1059):
G.Skill DDR3-1600, 2 x 4GB
8GB Kit. Not much to say, I guess.
PSU (R617):
Gigabyte Greenmax 550W
This is more of a placeholder till somebody can recommend something.
Case (R733):
Coolermaster Silencio 352m
I like the look of it and it doesn't break the bank.
Optical Drive (R195):
Lite-on DVD writer
Still need one from time to time, so here it is.
SSD (R1249):
Samsung MZ-7TE120 840 Evo Series 120GB
Apparently these are OK.
HDD (R1080):
WD Caviar Green 2TB
Can't think of any reason to get a faster drive.
OS (~R1200):
I want to give Windows 8.1 a go but how do I get a version for a new build?
Total: ~R11,900
Am I missing something? Have I made bad choices? Comments and recommendations highly appreciated.
