i know obviously what it is suppose to do, but i would like to know at least what various of types and methods there are.

for example i can see the normal aaX since its just AA, but then there is other like qaa something X and msaaX

tech papers are welcome too :D
 
LOL. well it's basically just degrees of AA.

as an example. set Nvidia AA to "application controlled", and in your game set AA to 4x or 8x.

Then set your Nvidia AA to Override and 4xQaa or 8x Qaa and the game to NO AA, and you will see that with the QAA, antialiased objects have like a micro blur filter around them, to make them look even more smooth. Then there is also Supersampling and Multisampling. Multisampling gives better performance, while Supersampling AA is just awesome for Image quality

ok so Supersampling AA is the best then ?, better with anastrophic filtering i guess...
 
Anistropic Filtering I just allways leave on 16x. AF depicts the level of sharpness/crispness of far away textures.
 
Always found that the quality provided vs the performance drop in AA not really worth it... matter of fact, most of the time AA is hardly noticable which you are in the action.

same where. i would just walk past a computer without looking and just know whether or not aa is on :eek:


lol ok seriously i prefer it on rather than off, it does look better for me in the end.
 
This is where pc is beter than consoles. PS#, Xbox, Wii, etc never apply AA to there games and end up looking a bit weird. If you don't believe me go look for your self.
 
Sometimes people just can't afford the AA, cos of hardware, and the ridiculous res' they run. It's often a matter of choosing low fps over wow-it-looks-so-awesome-oh-crap-I-just-got-shot-but-my-frames-are-so-low issue.

For instance, I can live without AA, but I can't live on low frames. Hurts my eyes, and irritates the #$#$$%^Q#$%#($% out of me.

I also thought that AA does not make a difference until I saw it Full (friends pc) vs nothing (my pc) at a Lan and it does make a huge difference even when mine was set to 4x.

Er..... The minimum requirement for xbox 360 games is 2x AA according to MS. last time i checked forza 2 had 2x aa during racing and 4x during replays so prove to me that there is not a single xbox 360 or ps3 game that doesnt have aa ?
