Any MMO's worth getting into?

I've never really tried it, and figured I might give it a shot. I'm currently looking at Guild Wars 2. Is this one any good, or are there others I should consider?

Also what's MMO gaming like in South Africa? Can I expect a lot of horrible lag and such?

Thanks.

Guild Wars 2 should be top priority.

If this is going to be your proper 1st MMO, then make it GW2. You won't be disappointed.

Much better than any MMO I've ever played, and I've played some fun ones.

Depends if you like more PvP or PvE type rpgs, Asian influenced or not, old style or new style, etc etc. GW2 to me is a bit too anime-like and too much PvP but that is a personal thing. I play a ton of Dungeons and Dragons Online (almost 2 years) and still love it. I'd say try a couple and see what you like. Latency wise, it's not a major issue with anything from 150-300 as the average.

Just go Guild Wars 2.

I'd be very surprised if you regret it.

One of the more entertaining and enjoyable reviews I've come across.

If you want to go the cookie cutter route... that is. "whistling:

Pff fanboys :)

WOW > GW2 & all others
Always has been, always will be

Yeah, you buy GW2 once and if you made a mistake it's already paid off.

You buy WoW and you keep making that mistake in monthly instalments of $15.

Name one thing that WoW does right that doesn't just boil down to catering to a self-centred cock-measuring contest between adolescents (and like-minded individuals) with nothing better to do with their time than button-mash grind their way to "ZOMG L33T GEAR" and we can talk.

Because, frankly, that is all WoW had going for it eight years ago and it continues to be all that WoW has going for it today.

The unfortunate truth is that pretty much every MMORPG since has been an imitation of precisely everything that's wrong with WoW.

So looking at GW2, thank FUCK a developer finally tried something different and pulled it off with aplomb and great quality and without an imbecilic monthly investment that punishes you for not having the time to grind through 5,000 generic quests and 300 raid dungeons with the same lacklustre objectives.

To be honest, each to their own, but don't call people who are happy to play something new and different "fanboys" when the reverse is far more true for those who are afraid of change and innovation and prefer the same stale and tragic turd that they've been burying their puerile heads in for eight fucking years.

There we go the f2p/p2o vs p2p card. Gw2 is the JKD of mmo, which some of its forefathers also did from what was available. I'd hardly paint gw2 as the second coming of mmos.

If all else fails use fuck to boost your augment ;)

Yeah, wow. "Fuck." Amazing word, somehow when it's used people place some imagined sense of importance on it as though it is anything more or less than a form of expression. Clearly some people can't get over their own ridiculous sensibilities. Do try harder.

I also don't recall painting GW2 as "the second coming of MMOs." I simply stated that it's new, it has been out for three weeks and it manages to do a lot right.

As for the rest of what you wrote, I'm afraid me no speaka dago fuckwit.

WoW is one of the best MMOs for players new to MMOs to get into, because it's a real cookiecutter mmo. It's the blueprint for many other MMOs out there. Say what you want about the community or game, there's a reason it still holds the top rank amongst MMO fans. Gameplay is excellent, the playable classes are excellent, the world is excellent and the questing isn't half bad either. It might be generic, but it's generic in a good way.

It's pretty much the best intro to the MMO genre you can expect.

Tends to happen when all someone can take out of everything you wrote is the word "fuck" and "Pay-to-Play" vs "Free-to-Play" instead of the teeny tiny little argument behind that about how WoW is a behemoth that only caters to one real type of personality.

And, when that happens, there's little point left to rational intercourse.
