Any reason going to Rage LAN this year?

With most (all?) of the games dropping LAN and dedi servers, is there any reason to go to Rage?

Yes there are old games to play... But seriously, if I play another game of DotA, I just might kill someone.

So, will there be a reason to go? Other than leeching, which I have no interest in?

AVP could turn out to be killer, but I suspect it would be like AVP1 and 2, with only the die hard fans still lanning it a couple of months after launch. We Still lan AVP2

Our group goes to R4ge as out annual get-together we hangout at the dome for a very limited period. We come from all around SA, bottom line, we're all there for the fun meet n greetz, not too phased by the gaming.

I'm plannning to be at rAge this year (fingers crossed really - depends on the new job) - won't be going to the LAN though - I get enough action at OC every month.

I don't have time for rage. Got band practice and maybe we are gigging by then.

rage has become such a waste of a good event. The first one was really awesome because they actually had the latest stuff on show and the newest games running there. Now its turned into a glorified retail show nothing new nothing exciting just a bunch of people selling stuff.

Hopefully Sexpo is the same time this year went last year and I had a absolute blast!

The first 2 rage expos were good and I ahve to agree the rest kinda sucked.

Seconded. From my personal experience 2006 was brilliant, 2007 was alright and 2008 was pretty poor. I didn't bother going last year.

I'd rather save all that cash on flying up unnecessarily.

What did people expect from rAge last year?

In terms of hardware; No new consoles of any kind, were released. The biggest thing was probably DJ hero (/spit). (And I doubt PROJECT NATAL was ready for any public appearance)

On the PC side the only exciting thing was ATI's 5870 (which IMO could have been advertised better) and as we all know, we're still waiting a response from the green team. Then Logitech had their yet unreleased flight stick G940 present as well as the G27.

For games, they had a few stands with unreleased games (Dragon Age, Uncharted 2, Borderlands) and gave people the opportunity to play/demo them. Something that was even less present the previous year. Also the guy talking through the features in the new games, was nice (though I laughed at DJ hero thing).

Sadly, these were the highlights for the entire year, internationally as well. So unless rAge was suppose to pull rabbits from their ass, I dunno what else people would've expected from the expo.

One thing that I do agree on though, is that we are also there to see a show. If I wanted to buy hardware, I'd be standing in a shop. Retailers should put more effort in to punt their company and not the products they sell. More competitions and more events please.

Over the entire rAge event last year, I was in the expo a grand total of 30min. Once to (literally) walk through to see what was going on and the second time to find a friend of mine.

I couldn't be bothered with the expo. Was too busy with clannies. Which is how it's been for me for the last four years.
