Anyone with 2mb/s or faster internet - ever used OnLive?

Basically, it's a cloud gaming site that streams games as you play them, meaning they're not on your computer. Theoretically, you should even be able to play the games on a netbook, because you don't need beefy hardware, only the ability to stream video. All the rendering is done their side.

Only problem is, minimum requirements is a 2mb internet connection, and I've only got 1mb. Just curious to hear if anyone has ever tried it? Would love to hear from someone who has.

If anyone wants to try and report back, you can sign up for free and all their games can be played for free for 30 minutes as a trial period. I'd seriously consider upgrading to a 2mb line just for this, as it would save me tons of money on hardware upgrades.

Eh, depends on the type of game you want to play. For FPS, not at all. For something like TBS or RTS, could work nicely.

It's never going to work with our latency.

Also, 2Mbps is the minimum connection, the recommended speed is 5Mbps. I also wonder about upstream speed requirements. Considering that even on a 4Mbps line, you only get 512Kbps up, and you'll probably only actually realise 400Kbps if you're lucky. It shouldn't be as much of an issue as downstream speed though.

Damn, that sucks. Cloud gaming is quite an interesting concept, and I'd easily switch over to it if it were possible for us. Would certainly cut down a lot on hardware costs, etc.

It sounds really cool in concept, but anything that requires a really good internet connection, especially if the servers are overseas, just doesn't really work in SA.

Exactly, it could work if we had servers here since that would result you having lower ping. A friend of mine had it and he could not even get it to go past the screen Eugene posted.
