Apple Gaming?

Anyone think that Apple will release a console some time in the near future? Perhaps with the next-gen consoles?

I don't think that Apple has any game dev's of its own, so it might only take 3rd party games, unless they buy some dev's with their billions.

As it is, it seems like Apple is entering the gaming market with gaming features on the new iOS 5 for Apple TV

Assuming that it's not an utter failure like the 1995 Apple Bandai Pippin was, would you buy one?

Would they use their normal model of flashy looking hardware sold at premium prices? Or follow the current model of taking a loss initially and selling the games at premium prices?

It could actually be interesting if they could persuade people to pay more upfront and get the games cheaper.
 
No I would not buy one, would be cool to see what hardware they would run though.
To elaborate...I still think apple overcharges for their products hence the reason I will never support them, and I'm guessing if they ever had to release a console it would cost a good R2000-R3000 more than the established consoles.
That said I reckon it would sell like hot cakes, people are blinded by the apple machine ;)
 
I don't see them bothering with a console doesn't really make sense. Their strategy is rather to bring the gaming market to them on their devices.
 
I don't really foresee it happening. But if it did you know it would be epic. They would of course need to be competitive.

@Joker - there is a very good reason Apple charges what they do. They don't make shit products. Their stuff is made from the best quality products and you will only ever appreciate this when you own something made by Apple :)

I can imagine apple making a iconsole ..
it would be the size of a irice grain and ran entirely on isuggestive motion and ihappy feelings.
You would install games by putting it on the iricebowl which wirelessly downloads your igames purchases from the icloud.
they would also have a loyalty program called icare.
one of their first simulations will be a wedding day preperation silulator called ido.:love:

Doth I smell sarcasm? But it would be pretty funny if they did release a console. It's generally epic to see what slim and sleek designs they bring out for their products. But you'd be upgrading consoles every year ^_^

Yip no doubt they make good stuff, but they are still way over priced. Not gonna bring charts into this lol but in every case and point apple charges way more than its competition.
I've had 2 Ipods, of which one decided to stop playing music (the port where you plug your headphones in would not work no matter what) within 6 months of getting it, couldn't get if fixed because it was a gift from a mate in the states. 2nd one lasted me all of a year before I got rid of it.
 
I just can't see Apple endorsing this officially. The most they can do is open up some Apple Store feature on the Apple TV so that it can grab the same apps existing for the iPhone and the iPad. It also seems way too hacky to get running. They've got their portable space to worry about and I think they'll focus on that.

I think their products are mostly good, and there are some standout features, but most of the superior quality is perceived rather than reality. That was one of Jobs' goals. They have made various bad products and released products with serious defects, plus even their good products are not made to the standard to which they appear to be made.
 
Jeez, I doubt they'd ever enter that market. They like to be more exclusive, so I really dont think they'd want to compete with the xbox(MS) and PS(sony). I could've maybe seen them do something like the wii, because it doesn't really compete with anything (when it was first released anyway)...but Nintendo did it first.
I dont think they're gonna sway from their chosen path anytime soon.

They make desktop computers, laptops, tablets, phones and music players, all of which are not exclusive.

/acknowledges missed point
The software is pretty damn exclusive and restricting. I doubt they'd want to have the same game as PS3 and Xbox allowed on their system.
 
As long as I can use my iPad as a controller, Wii U style, I think it would be cool. I will have to sell my children to get it though, but hell whatever, wlecome to the cult of mac.
 
All the consoles are restrictive. In fact this kind of lock-in is just up Apple's alley. They're past masters at making their customers buy specialised hardware to do normal things. The software restrictions of course only apply to their phones and tablets. I can install anything I want on their computers without having to hack them first.

I still think the big issue for Apple is that selling the hardware at a loss initially goes against the grain. And despite the hip look of their hardware they're a very conservative company. Chances are Steve Jobs would never go for it, but then he's gone now. Apple can certainly afford to wade into the console market.
 
Apple Gaming. That's an oxymoron.

I hate iOs games. They are sooo lame generally. I really don't understand the whole Angry Birds addiction thing. I got myself an iPod Touch. Loaded a bunch of games onto it. But it really just doesn't appeal to me at all. I mean I love my ipod...but just because it's an awesome music player than I can hit the webs on if theres a wifi nearby.

TBH even if apple did even start getting a lot more PC game support I would still probably not buy their product. iOs is waaaay to restrictive for me. It feels like owning something but not being able to do what I want with it. I imagine thats what its like to own a console. I want to be free to mod the shit out of what I own. but thats just me.

PC forever.
