Apple: the king of portable gaming platforms
The current best-selling portable gaming device may not be what you expect

I have a iPhone and an iPad. I don't play games on it (even though I own a couple), simply because iOS games are really lacklustre in comparison to other handhelds.
Try out infinity blade 1 & 2, grand thef auto III, Jetpack Joy Ride are all good ones. You can also get classic Streat Fighter II which plays really well. But I guess it depends on person to person.
Played Infinity blade on a friend's iphone. Really not liking the limitations of the interface at all. Tapping on a screen is not the same as having buttons. I have SFIV Volt, which I play every now and then when I'm standing in a queue somewhere, but even so it doesn't come close to having a dedicated handheld with buttons.
I see. For me the idea of forking out £££ for a dedicated hand held device seems like a waste of money. So different strokes for different folks. Apple makes most of its game revenue from the casual market anyways.
US Itunes selection of games ROCKS!!! How can you not game when having those games?
I am using a US account. iOS titles tend to be closer to the majority of casual games on the Wii than actual proper "core" gaming titles you'd find on the 360 and PS3. Very few games are designed with the platform's interface in mind (i.e. Infinity Blade) and the ports tend to be rather poor.
At the end of the day, I need buttons.

But yeah, you need to take the platforms UI into account and few devs have managed that.
Have you tried ShadowGun? Its a gears clone, controls take a bit of getting use to but its not a bad effort.

Definitely, that's why I'm saying that games like Infinity Blade are good examples of titles that actually work on the platform. I still don't find it (IB specifically) entertaining enough to actually buy.
Nope, but I'll investigate it.
My iPad is primarily used for browsing and reading comics/magazines/books.
I definitely agree with the quote, however I feel that it's not really applicable to this at all. Considering that it's a case of simplifying the interface to a point where 75% of the previous functionality is practically impossible and the limitations of the hardware architecture doesn't allow for any real improvement/new functionality. Which results in a pretty poor and shallow experiences at the end of the day.
