I have a huge problem with pay to play.
You see if you have a family and there has to be food on the table, a house over your head etc., then many of us don't have tons of money lying around. I buy games to enjoy with my online friends and can't really afford to pay for gaming (above adsl costs, hardware etc.) Ja even R100 per month will be stretching it thin for some of us. Then i would really have to think where my priorities lay in live....
And guess what? My family always comes 1st.

Precisely, but sadly you and I are not their target market. They are going for the 12-20 odd age group, where most either sponge off their folks or are old enough to earn their own money, but have no real serious commitments yet. What is also wrong is that I know of some guys that have more than one person per household playing the same game online, each with his own game, that would now need to pay double subscription. How is that fair?
It is going to become like WoW. And if you think people won't pay to play, then why are something like 11 million people paying to play WoW?
What could maybe work as a nice alternative is to lower the cost of the games, indeed, make the multiplayer portion free, and then charge players a fee to play. That's just a suggestion. Not saying it's perfect, merely a thought.
PS, anyone who outs gaming before the family has some problems/issues.
Simply put, make games that people want to play and they will buy them. Unless its like WOW where Blizzard has to maintain and provide all the servers for play to happen, this is just nonsense and greed talking. I mean MW2 and Starcraft 2 run on peer to peer. The cost to maintain on the developer is minimal.
I mean what next? Then they will be saying that long single player games are bad for the industry too.
Pfft this is just fail.

and you guys never party at least once a weekend, never goes out to a flick or two, never go eat out, never buy booze ?
Not to be funny, but no, not really. Yeah, we might have some mates over on a weekend for a braai and a drink. Yes, my wife and I get take aways now and then when the budget allows and we don;t feel like cooking. And my booze lasts for ages. But those are all social activities which I can do with my wife. She is not into gaming other than some hidden object games, so don't say gaming is also something we can do together.
So no, I'm not prepared to pay however much per month to game when I have bond repayments of over R12k, rates % taxes of over R2500 and dogs to feed and blah blah blah. I've already shelled out between R350 and R500 for the game, PC version mind you, never mind the R700 price tag of premium console game titles. Why must I pay more each month again to keep playing my game. Yeah, I could probably shit out the money, dependent on what might be charged, but I won't.
Another thing, please don't assume because you can afford something, that everyone else can as well. You have no idea what each persons' financial situation is.
PPS: Calling me a little bitch, real mature. Great way to end your argument.
MW2 is 100% right, SC2... In all fairness the games run through central servers, not P2P, thats why theres lag even if you play with local friends. (It wasn't the smartest choice though.)
