Oh good lord, no. Don't even get me started on that.
But you have, so now you're in for it
South African society is a lot warmer, friendlier and open. There's a big litter and graffiti problem over here (the locals blame it on the EU crisis which means less jobs, less people cleaning mess up). The other problem is that a lot of people around these parts don't want to do the rubbish jobs, meaning that mostly immigrants end up doing them.
And then you have a vocal anti-immigrant (read: muslim/non-white) minority who, frankly, piss everyone off--there have been a few clashes between the liberals and the nutjobs.
Swedish society as a whole is very pro-immigrant and pro-freedom. But some minority political groups feel that their culture, language, etc is being wiped out. 10% of Sweden's population consists of immigrants, so that's a pretty big chunk.
It's difficult to really compress into a short and readable post but, all countries have their issues. Sweden is a beautiful country and it has some really nice people and shit (telecoms, electrical, public transport, etc infrastructure) just works.
But it doesn't have South Africa's soul, its warm society, its economy (life is EXPENSIVE here and houses aren't exactly grand) or just generally its vibe.
Then again, it doesn't have South Africa's crime (there was a big brouhaha a week or two ago when some girls found a "foot" in a forest near here--it turned out to be a seal fin), or South Africa's broken politics.
The big thing though, is that my other half's family is just next door in Denmark, so it's fine.
But, if any MyG folk are ever in the mood to visit this part of the world, you're welcome to crash
