Assassin's Creed Unity Locked at 900p for Both Xbox One, PS4

Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Unity will run at 900p regardless of whether it's the Xbox One or the PS4 version. The framerate, too, will be locked to 30 fps.

Senior producer Vincent Pontbriand said that the reason behind the decision boiled down to wanting to "avoid all the debates and stuff." He went on to explain the technical reasons behind the decisions, telling VideoGamer.com that the lock in graphical performance had to do with the console's CPUs and not GPUs.

Saying that the CPU processing the AI in the game while also processing the number of NPCs on the screen presented a bottleneck.

"It's not the number of polygons that affect the framerate," Pontbriand explained. Rather, the tradeoff comes when deciding to keep either a high framerate or convincing AI. He said that they could be running at 100fps if they only had to take into account the graphics, but the AI demands on the processor have moved them to lock the framerate at 30fps on both console versions.

The Xbox One and PS4 versions of last year's Assassin's Creed: Black Flag both initially ran at the 900p resolution, but a later patch bumped the PS4 version up to 1080p.

That is some bs right there cpu limited my ass if both console are 900 p 30 fps reaching 1080 p on ps4 should not be a problem .Ubi is really trying hard to take over from EA in the shit race lol.

I also read that the Notrê Dame Cathedral took about 2years of developing alone, and it's a 1:1 scale replica?!

What is the point if you can not see the fine detail this forced parity is not cool I wonder if the pc version is also locked 900 p 30 fps that would be some funny shit lol.

Really not bothered by the 900p resolution, no one is really going to notice the missing 180 pixels. Am a bit bummed about the fps but oh well. Still looking forward to it.

30fps was obvious, there was no way it would be 60fps. Heck Good PC's will have to try and and bruteforce to that and it most likely would dip a lot.

The resolution is strange, especially because they admit that. I'm getting it on PC anyway but I know how the PS4 guys feel when your hardware of choice is held back.

I never get involved in the console resolution scandals... but FPS is more important for me than resolution most of the time. I would like to see games running consistently smooth. And for that you need to ensure you can maintain 60 fps or 30 fps. My eyes will notice a change in frame rate quite easily. But if it maintains a smooth 30 fps then its still fine by me.

smooth 30fps....

smooth...

30fps...

smooth... 30fps ...

Will there even be a noticeable difference between 1080p and 900p? I mean, 180p difference!
30fpsis sucky to play with, for starters.
