Asus Xonar DX Ultra Fidelity 7.1

Any other recommendations?

There aren't really any. Very few (if any) dealers/suppliers are stocking Creative anymore and as Lupus said Asus aren't putting any effort into their driver support. It's almost worse than their BIOS support.

But you only need driver support if you run into problems, so I guess you could try it out. I'm going to get myself one some time next year. Frontosa is the only supplier I know of. Maybe speak to the ComputersOnly guys, see if they can help you out.

For the drivers I've started taking to using a universal driver written by some bloke, he has done a pretty good job and now the card does perform quite well, Creative is unfortunately quite rare as my X-fi I had before was better at games. Look if you can try get it as it really is a good card if you don't mind putting up with bad support.

I emailed Take2, Zaps, and sybaritic. They all seem to be expecting stock next week sometime. ComputersOnly does not have the card on they Webpage - I didn't think of contacting them. Maybe I should still email anyway..

I dont mind if there isn't support, provided everything works well. If there aren't really any other cards at that price range, then I guess I will have to settle for this.

@Lupus what OS are you running?

@Den That's a awesome set but I have my Roccat Kave :D at the moment.

Having owned a Xonar for 2 years, having had to try find drivers that worked, having to try getting GX working on some games so my 5.1 speakers actually work. Having to try get headphones sounding right, having checked their forums, website and various others for various fixes. So it's from experience that I've come up with these statements.

Asume you were using XP?
Also what Xonar?

Asus actually have much better drivers then creative and are smaller (25mb) compared to the huge creative drivers.

Currently on the D2X but had the DX, look it's a great card hardware wise, but their drivers are less to write home about. Never tried on XP as I don't own a copy any longer to reinstall and test it on, perhaps on XP they work as they supposed to but that is silly cause it's an ancient operating system.
Hey Creative are just as bad in my eyes I had an X-fi Fatality and to get updated drivers out of them was just as much of a nightmare, Daniel K's drivers helped.

For all the moaning on the D2 series they finally released drivers :-D and it's the same as the hacked ones I'm using, going to be switching to the official Asus ones
