Drug suspect speeds off, killing self, cop

Johannesburg - A motorist who raced away while a policeman was in his car searching for drugs, killed them both when he crashed in Rosebank during a high-speed chase on Thursday, according to police.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said two police officers stopped the Audi R8 and searched it.

When they found a small amount of dagga, the driver sped off with one police officer still inside the vehicle. The other policeman gave chase in the police van.

"The Audi driver lost control in Rosebank and hit a tree, a wall and a light pole," said Dlamini.
The policeman and the motorist were declared dead at the scene.

Dlamini said the policeman's name would be released after his family had been informed.

Holy shit. I saw the pics on News24 and thought it was two joy riders! Horrible news.

So, Police officers just randomly stopped a luxury vehicle and proceeded to "search" it? Without a warrant as well. Yeah - okay. We all know why the SAPS pull stunts like this.

To me this sounds like 2 dodgy SAPS members (that doesn't narrow it down, sorry) who tried to shake-down some guy in an expensive car and then basically one thing led to another, and the dodgy cop got more than he bargained for. I feel sorry for the family of the driver. Clearly the Audi driver panicked when they actually DID find a controlled substance, and didn't want to deal with the consequences of the corrupt officers (probably because they were harassing the snot out of him even BEFORE this happened, which is what led to the car being "searched"). Cops only start "searching" your vehicle when you stand up to them and refuse to pay their bribes. FACT.

This is just one perspective on the story though. I just think people need to look at both angles here before everyone starts saying "ag siestog polisie man" because, let's be honest here, the SAPS are the biggest crooks of them all.

Something is definitely odd here:

1. The police officer was in the car, searching for "drugs"
2. The driver was still in the driver's seat??

If the Po-Po wants to search your vehicle (for real) they usually ask you to get out of it FIRST. So right off the bat, this story about drugs makes no sense. Also, who says that they found drugs? The remaining officer? Sorry, but a small bag of dagga sounds like something the officer would have had on him anyways, not found in an Audi R8. Again, this story blows.

My conclusion - this guy was being highjacked by a police officer. There have been many articles about people in high-end vehicles being highjacked by "police" in the Northern suburbs. Put 1 and 1 together.
