Azimuth's guide to not looking stupid when posting comments online

I heard about No 6 and I immediately said that I agree with the point you made, lol, censorship was imposed I suppose, due to those same guys this article is aimed at. ( Included in your examples ) They would simply focus on that and we would all be here until 2057 debating the non factual comments they normally make

I've never seen the point in needing good grammar or spelling on a forum/ or comments section.

As long as it's understandable should be enough. Obviously the language being used shouldn't be butchered to death but the odd 'to' when 'too' was correct or a missing apostrophe is not nearly enough to warrant a call the the language police.

This is not a school essay we are writing, contrary to what might otherwise be believed.

Thank God for people like you mate:)

Oh and Azi, i decided to keep my mouth shut, really don't feel like getting into a argument with you over this.

Tinman decided #6 wasn't fit for public consumption. I GOT CENSORED.

;_;

I actually wrote something about online spelling and grammar on my blog. I think I shall make a blog entry on myG .... haven't done so in a long time!

Please note that this is not aimed at spurring on the fight, I'm merely stating my opinion ;)

I just hate that a few months down the line these same issues will be dredged up yet again. Either by new people or the same offenders. Often it feels like posting on a forum is tantamount to spinning ones wheels in the mud - you seldom get anywhere, and things can get dirty fast.

Must say at the moment typing on forums is feeling so hopelessly pointless for me most of the time... Guess I am not in the mood for the interwebz at the moment.

On point 5.

The only time one's opinion can be considered more correct or holistic, is when the person has actually put some real thought and effort into it. Often opinions have very little to back them up in reality. Everyone thinks they are a critic, but they could not critique an ass from their ass. Not all opinions are equal, sorry.

Some valid points there.
Poor grammar and spelling irks me.
At the same time, I cannot help but suspect that this
article should perhaps not be taken at face value.
It would not be the first time that Azimuth employed
irony or prodded disproportionately tender egos, nor will will
it be the last time she sharpens her knives before our sacred cows.
[At least, I hope not.]

Of course, I could be wrong about this. ;-)

/One of the reasons I don't post as often as I did is because I *do* sometime realise that I have little of value to add to a given discussion. I no longer want to make a comment for the sole purpose of
qualifying as an entrant to a competition. Also, I don't know have as much insight into games as many of you probably do and spend much less time playing games to completion.

Oh, I agree with you completely. If it's not an informed or considered opinion, it's completely worthless. People are quick to hate on reviewers, for example, but they forget that, necessarily, most reviewers probably play a lot more games than they do. My opinion about games pulls on a lot of experience, and critical experience at that.

Having said that, I do think people can take other people's opinions far too seriously. I'm guilty of this on occasion myself. Still, it's like every time I put up an article like this, some readers always get up in their bitch about it, because they're so insulted. It's like they can't take a step back and laugh at themselves once in a while.

I think the reason why so many people get offended is because of the tone in your reviews and articles. The way you state things, while being very creative, will frequently create an effect which makes people more defensive, thereby nullifying any chance of consideration on their behalf. But then again I am sure that most of the people taking offense would not consider anything outside their scope of understanding regardless.

I am just not sure which is more important to you - The points you are making in your articles or a seeming need to incite a volatile reaction. I feel like your points are usually SO spot on, but because of the tone, people can, and will, have a strong reaction to it and end up considering nothing.

Please don't take this as an attack. I am not intending it as one. If I am correct in my understandings you are achieving exactly what you set out to. That alone is to be commended regardless of my personal feelings on any topic you write about. Curious...

Nah, I don't see it as an attack at all, and it's a perfectly legitimate comment. Thing is, I write the sort of stuff I like to read. And I like to read provocative stuff. It's really as simple as that.

Hehe all good. Looks like I am guilty of being one of those people that you mention who take things too seriously, but that it my nature. Different tastes and ideas is what keeps things interesting. The governing criteria is whether or not they are complex in their nature (which is not the case for a lot of people).

Keep it up, I am glad for something like this that actually really gets me thinking on human nature and such. ^_^

Azi's articles are for me in line with Yahtzee's reviews on games. He pours the hate on almost everything - even the games everyone likes. He did a good one on Just Cause 2 as well ^_^ I remember he did a video once responding to all the complaints - I got a good laugh out of that one. Actually ... I'm gonna go check out the Just Cause review again. Why?

Just cause :p

Like tehNihilist says, her articles tend to get people on the defensive - I've been guilty of this myself a couple of times - but you have to sit back sometimes and wonder ... why am I getting defensive over this? Answers may surprise you.

And Joker ... seriously - don't know why you had to go dig up a post from god knows where to make a point. Nobody's perfect - not you, not Azi.

Although maybe she disagrees :p

Please believe..I am Godlike:cool:
I wasn't being mean or nasty. even she admits we are all entitled to our own opinions. I didn't like the article, I found it boring and pointless, as we know these issues are spoken about daily on many other forums, no need to write about it and plaster it on our front page. I'm sorry Azi really not being mean, just my point of view:)

I'm not getting dragged into this again;)
